Resumo: The volunteer's working place is the kindergarden in Lieskau, a neighbouring place. This is a village with 7000 inhabitants with an intact social infrastructure.
The town is a vibrating city of about 230,000 inhabitants. It is located in the south of Saxony-Anhalt, approximately 30 km west of Leipzig. Hometown of the University, the city has established a rich cultural and social life. There are many cultural as well as sport facilities, such as theatres, cinemas, pubs, libraries, bathhouses and sports clubs. Situated next to the river Saale, the city and its surroundings offer wonderful opportunities to walk, relax and enjoy nature. The social and economic situation is still very much influenced by a high unemployment rate (12,3% in January 2012).
Perfil: The participant should enjoying being with children and their families. The participant has to be at least 18 years until 30 years old.
An open and transparent choice of the volunteer is guaranteed through the free announcement of the project in the EVS-Database and a survey of all incoming applications non-regarding the nationality, gender, religion etc. of the applicants. The choice of the applicant will take place in coooperation of sending and hosting organisation to bundle as many perspectives and experiences as possible.
The sending organisation should have a focus on work with kids and youths or facilitation of democracy and cultural diversity.
Tarefas: The volunteer will be working with the older groups of the kindergarden (4 to 6 years). Special tasks of the volunteer will be to make "Europe" accessible to the kids by talking about his/her country and the life there or by putting those aspects into games. In addition, the volunteer shall make the English language accessible to the kids, be it in daily games and routines or in special theme-related projects (e.g. "Times of the Year", "In the Woods", "Sports and Games" ...)
Volunteer will have learning possibilities in different fields.
First, he/she will be instructed how to deal with small kids by professionals. His/her special tasks - to make Europe and the English language accessible to the kids - demand of the volunteer to work pedagogically on concrete themes. Here, he/she can try his/her hand on teaching with the necessary support of our professionals and become more and more independent.
The hosting organization has its main office in the building of the Evangelical Center for Educational Projects. In this center, there are constantly several volunteers (at the moment mostly Germans) who work on different projects, so the international volunteer has contact to other volunteers of his/her age. He/she can also prepare events or projects in cooperation with those volunteers.
The volunteer should speak English, in order to be able to speak English with the children in daily life. He/she should enjoy being with children and their families. The participant has to be at least 18 years.
