Resumo: A Project environment: The association CITRUS has been situated in the department of Tarn-et-Garonne since 2006, where it attempts to establish long-lasting ties with the local communities. Situated around Quercy, the calcareous trays shape the landscape, which consists of numerous beech and oak, groves and rivers (Gorges de l'Aveyron). The local architectural heritage is characterised by typical medieval buildings (les Bastides) and the utilisation of natural materials, such as stones and earth. The diversified landscape and the lot of natural and historical places characterise the region, where agriculture and green tourism are the main activities. Hence, the possibilities for the young population concerning work and cultural activities are often seasonal (basically in summer). The presence of young European volunteers and the existence of projects allows the proposal of activities during the whole year, represents an important stake for the local dynamic. Reception for the project is in Laguépie, a small village with 730 inhabitants, in the region "Pays Midi-Quercy", situated in a rural and isolated area, about hundred kilometres north-eastern of Toulouse. On the border of Laguépie, there is another village called Saint-Martin-de-Laguépie with 500 inhabitants. This territory of Occitan traditions is covered by an associative net, which organises social and cultural activities, in an environment marked by weak economic activities and the ageing of the population. Formalities of reception: The association CITRUS wishes to welcome a group of international volunteers during the whole year in a common place of life, in order to facilitate the meeting and the multiplicity of exchanges. The EVS volunteers will be accommodated in collective housing, in a big house in the centre of the village, which is provided by the municipality. All the hosted people participate in the tasks of daily life and are requested to respect the collectively established rules of life - schedules, sharing out daily tasks, etc - everything that concerns the intercultural exchange. The association CITRUS makes a commitment to facilitate communication for the volunteers by assuring a regular and free access to Internet, also by opening a telephone line in order to receive calls at the hosting place, and by looking out for possibilities of transportation according to needs (bicycles, minibus, public transport possibilities by bus in the local area, and train station in Laguépie : one hour by train from Toulouse). Laguépie is at 35 minutes by car from Septfonds (head office of the association Citrus), and it is about thirty kilometres from the towns of Albi (50 000 inhabitants), Gaillac (12 000 inhabitants), and Villefranche-de-Rouergue (12 000 inhabitants), and also about 70 km from the city of Montauban (55 000 inhabitants).
Perfil: C Volunteer profiles and recruitment process: Solidarités Jeunesses does not ask volunteers, who wish to participate in the projects of long term voluntary services, for particular skills - consequently there has never been established a profile for coming volunteers. At the same time we try hard for our partner associations to provide us with detailed indications concerning the content and the modalities of the projects, so that the future volunteers have all the elements and are able to choose an adequate project. In agreement with the spirit of the program, Solidarités Jeunesses considers it necessary to make the projects of voluntary service accessible to everyone, who is motivated and interested in participating, without distinction of skills, social environment or gender. Whatever their level of study or their experience of life might be, all volunteers participate in an informal exchange of knowledges during the projects. We expect that the volunteer has a good understanding of the global project, and that he or she wants to be part of the group dynamic of and the collective life. We consider volunteering as an act of exchange between a volunteer, who offers his or her time, work, and energy for the benefit of a project of common interest and a host community that offers the volunteer a field of learning, testing and personal development. Based on these principles, the most important aspect for the association is the volunteer's motivation, their willingness to engage and to share with others. We ask that volunteers are motivated, open minded and ready to make concessions in order to work as a team and live with other people. Their ability to communicate (learning the language as well as also non-verbal communication) is an important factor in order to establish ties with other people, but communication will not be a problem if the person is determined to learn the language. The volunteer must also consider the geographical background, as the project is located in a secluded and rural area. The concept of partnership is one of the fundamental values of Solidarités Jeunesses. Our volunteer activities are based on the principle of exchange, and are made possible through strong and sustainable exchanges. Through an extensive network of partners and participation in international activities - particularly in the framework of the Program European Youth in Action - we strive to establish a working relationship based on reciprocity and trust, and like to create new partnerships with organisations that promote the same values as Solidarités Jeunesses, and which have the desire to fulfill significant projects for young people. We encourage the establishment of regular contacts with partner organisations that respond to our aims, concerning places in our volunteer projects. The role of the partner association is essential, as it helps to clarify the important elements about the values of volunteer projects, volunteer responsibilities and the formalities of the project. Nevertheless, we would like to know the desires and/or problems of a youngster before his arrival, in order to ensure adequate conditions and activities. After this first contact, the volunteers will complete the registration form of Solidarités Jeunesses and will send us a letter of motivation. These elements are used as pedagogic material to guide the evaluation of the project and the voluntary service. Before the arrival, volunteers will be contacted directly by the hosting association to have an exchange on the understanding of the project.
Tarefas: B Proposed activities for EVS volunteers: Proposed activities for the volunteers: The activities: The hosted volunteers are welcomed in the heart of our structure and will participate in two sectors which are part of our activities: workcamps and local animation. These two sectors imply an European dimension, which we wish to underline and which we can develop by participating in the EVS Programme. 1. Workcamp: Participating in workcamps will be the main activity of the volunteers. This includes renewing and reconstructing the place : an old farm and its buildings, which is called "La Mayounelle", in order to create a centre of reception and intercultural meeting, as well as the restoration of the small buildings in the surrounding municipalities. The work is undertaken in a team, and managed under the responsibility of a qualified leader. During a workcamp the members of the association ensure to diversify the kind of work, in order to increase the possibilities of technical learning and to maintain the interest for the workcamp. The association endeavours to transmit the traditional manual know-how, which is the link between the generations. The methods of construction and restoration are realised within the objective of using local materials and the traditional techniques (dry stones, cherts etc.). The environmental quality is another important aspect of the project, which the association CITRUS wishes to promote by choosing ecological elements. An example would be the landscaping and the maintenance of green places or a kitchen garden are part of the activities program. It can also mean the installation of tools to reduce energy consumption (solar showers, baker's oven, etc.) or to use ecological materials for construction. 2. Local animation: The volunteers will participate regularly in activities of local animation, in cultural events or in activities with educational character in partnership with the municipalities, institutions and the local associations. The association supports for example the local schools to set up workshops regarding the environment, within the framework of the project of the collective garden. During the international workcamps, discovery workshops with cultural or linguistic themes are organised. In these activities, the international volunteers bring an intercultural dimension, which is highly appreciated by teachers and public schools. In the region, the association is seen as a resource, regarding the voluntary service, the workcamps and the intercultural openness. The types of animations as well as the fields of activities are open to the proposals of the members, the volunteers, and the partners - according to the local opportunities. Substantive work has begun to build relationships with people, municipalities, associations and other structures to facilitate the installation of new projects. The hosted EVS volunteers will be encouraged to imagine and realise activities of local animation, which engage the dialogue around questions raised by the European construction. 3. European dimension: The aim of our work is to build a social Europe in terms of peace, respect and tolerance. Therefore we encourage meetings and exchanges of others who have different social, cultural, and geographical backgrounds. Volunteers might be asked to work with people with fewer opportunities, within the role of providing an international and cultural exchange. For example adults who are in situations of reintegration may be present on the workcamps. The meeting and the achievement of a common work, with the involvement of both, European volunteers as well as disadvantaged or less mobile persons, is an excellent way to achieve this aim. Youth participation in a project of social utility and the voluntary commitment as citizens of Europe helps to make visible and accessible the actions of the European Union for young people. Convinced of the richness that this type of experience brings to a young path of life, the association applies to promote opportunities offered by the European Program Youth in Action regarding mobility, youth initiatives and intercultural exchange. The interventions of the association in the frame of the plan to promote volunteering are examples of display cases, in the local and regional area, to ensure the dissemination and visibility of the program. Based on the testimony of hosted EVS volunteers, the impact and visibility of this consciousness-raising effort will be strengthened. The presence of EVS volunteers is also important in the work of questioning made by the association through its actions, as in the involvement with local people as with partners. Our fields of action relate to cultural, social and environmental issues - common to those of the members of the European Union - and for which we encourage citizen participation. Our actions intend to promote solidarity, tolerance, openness and multiculturalism, according to the values of the European Union. Thus, one of the tasks of the hosted EVS volunteers is to propose new actions, which promote the adoption of the European idea of citizens.
Horário: Example of timetable: Volunteers will work 30 to 35 hours per week and take their holidays in consultation with the team, according to the season and needs of the association. Two half days per week are given to the conception and realisation of their personal projects and language support. By participating in workshops and meetings organised by the association, volunteers are actively involved in the associative life, contribute to the general organization of the implemented activities, and can propose their own ideas.
Condições: "Learning opportunities: The workcamps allow volunteers to discover team work, manual work, the handling of tools and materials. Volunteers learn at their own pace the techniques of masonry, carpentry and renovation. Around the theme garden, volunteers can also learn gardening techniques (recovery of water, fertilising of soil, sowing, planting, harvesting etc.). These activities give the opportunity to develop knowledges and know-how in natural or architectural domains. Being confronted with a sociocultural and international mixture, also brings a source of rich learning to the volunteers. On the one hand, we hope that the discovery of the environment in which they live is achieved through the sharing of life with the host community, in order to discover the rich geographical and cultural territory, as well as its social and economic factors. On the other hand, the collective experience of daily living, managing a budget or a project are ways that the association gives to volunteers to enable them to take responsibility and to gain autonomy during their voluntary service. Long term EVS volunteers may become pedagogical leaders of workcamps, under the support of the team of employees. Every year, a collective training of one week is organised by Solidarités Jeunesses to enable them to acquire the necessary skills to function as workcamp leader. They can also invest themselves in the preparation of workcamps (prenegotiation meetings, logistic support, establishment of tools, selection of the location etc.). Volunteers will also be invited to participate in moments of meeting and formation within the movement Solidarités Jeunesses, according to the possibilities of the association and relevance for their course. This will give them the opportunity to develop their knowledge about the functioning of networks, associations and its democratic organisation. For the implementation of a pedagogy, based on dialogue and reciprocal exchanges, the association's activities pursuit a non-formal education, which is supported by the European Program Youth in Action. To enable everyone to move forward in their life, CITRUS aims to enhance the experience of individuals through the development of personalised tools of assistance - like Youthpass. The working and evaluation methods used in non-formal education way, allows everyone to be aware of the necessary skills for personal fulfillment and social integration of the hosted people, in order to facilitate their professional integration and their participation to citizenship. Personal projects and language support: The association supports the initiative of volunteers and gives them assistance to carry out projects by providing guidance. After getting to know the actions which are conducted by the association, volunteers will develop one or more personal projects, which can be individual or collective, insofar as it will be in line with the project of the association. The form and theme of these projects will be developed with permanent members and volunteers of the association - with the aim to allow volunteers to express their talents and creativity, so that volunteering can be a period of reflection, discovery and personal fulfillment. Volunteers will be encouraged to imagine and organise actions which involve the local environment - depending on their interests and how they want to contribute to the project. Examples for possible actions are the organisation of debate evenings, an art exhibition, the construction of a solar oven, offering dance workshops, etc. In designing and realising personal projects, volunteers gain practical experience in organising projects, and during the running of their projects they can deepen and refine their knowledge and expertise. To encourage the initiative and independence of long term volunteers, lessons in French will be given once a week by the permanent and volunteers members of the association. Some materials may also be made available according to needs, and special emphasis will be given on the ability of volunteers to develop and maintain contacts with the local population. In fact, dialogues with storekeepers, inhabitants and partners are often in French, and are the best way to learn this language. Mentoring and support during the voluntary service: Long Term volunteers will be an integral part of the association's team. Each week they will participate to the meetings and the preparation of activities. The multiple experiences of hosting volunteers and trainees are convenient to ensure good conditions for the integration of EVS volunteers. They will also have the possibility to meet other long term EVS volunteers of the region, coming five times a year to the regional committee with the organisations belong to the EVS Program. The association's members will facilitate the integration of volunteers in the local community by offering to participate in a multitude of activities and meetings. The association will also ensure the competence and qualifications of the responsible persons, who will have the opportunity to keep up with a training plan. The volunteers will be monitored by a tutor, responsible for welcoming volunteers, whose role is to facilitate their integration, promote adoption of their own project, and assist them in achieving personal project(s) . As soon as the need arises, and at least once a month, the tutor will discuss with each volunteer their project status and the success of voluntary service. If necessary, other members of the association may provide support, as requested by volunteers.
