Resumo: ‣ The association is based in Letna in the city, a nice cultural area with a good sense of community very close to the city centre with good transport links. We are opposite one of the nicest parks in the city (Letna) with a great view where we take children from our classes for activities (such as juggling workshops.) The centre is around 100m2, with good windows, heating, and light.

‣ There is one main large room, with space for the volunteers to work, along with another smaller room for the gallery, and further spaces for storage, washing, toilet, cloakroom, etc.

‣ The city itself, is the capital of the Czech Republic and one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with 1.5 million inhabitants, a truly excellent public transport system (see dpp.cz for information about city transport), and a high level of culture and art.

‣ Volunteers will travel in the city with a travel pass (valid for all buses, trams, metro and some boats and trains in the city) which is paid from the grant. Travel from their accomodation to the association is less than 30mins.

‣ There is a wide range of excellent cultral, sporting, artistic, musical, and historical attractions in the city. We are also happy to put them in touch with previous volunteers who have worked for us and offered their help and suggestions to future volunteers.

‣ In addition, we are fully available to answer any questions they may have during or before their stay. Their mentor will also be available for this purpose.

‣ The volunteer will be be provided with a flat for their stay. They are required to keep their accommodation in a reasonable condition. The flat includes full kitchen and other facilities so the volunteer is able to prepare their own meals. We do not provide food in the association space itself. Internet connection is provided, along with their own private rooms. Volunteers will also receive phones and have a limited amount of free calls (paid for by the grant per month).

Perfil: ‣ We are able to offer a position for two independent, creative people at any one time.

‣ We are looking for people with an interest or passion for art, perhaps with some previous experience with some form of art making (any media). The position would best suit people who want to improve their art skills and gain confidence and experience so that they could later take this further if they wish.

‣ It is also helpful if they enjoy working with children, though previous experience isn't necessary, as long as they like kids and think they would enjoy working with them.

‣ In general all creative people are welcome to apply, whatever their particular area of creativity may be. Those who did have a particular artistic skill would be encouraged to exhibit their work in our space and also work on our gallery but again this is not a requirement, rather an opportunity for the interested volunteer.

‣ If they were interested in improving their skills on the 'office' side that would also be good, (eg to learn how to create or manage a website, how to create and distrubute outreach materials, etc, how to apply for grants etc. Previous experience is not necessary but an interest to learn or develop these kinds of skills is useful.

‣ Finally, if volunteers are keen on organising events such as film nights (perhaps in an area they feel passionate about, be in social, environmental or artistic areas), poetry readings etc.this would also be good (but not essential) for our work with the cultural side of our organisation.

‣ In general passionate creative independent people are encouraged to apply.

‣ Our recruitment process is open and clear. We accept all applications until the deadline which is listed clearly on the website. All applications are responded too, and the most suitable candidates are asked a series of more detailed questions and are invited for a phone interview.

‣ After this process of initial application, written questions, and phone interview, the candidates who are best suited to the position, once they are clearly informed what to expect on the project, are accepted. We explain clearly to each candidate how we came to our decision.

‣ We are willing to cooperate with all sending organisations and we are as inclusive as possible in terms of those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Tarefas: ‣ We can offer a lot to prospective volunteers. As we are not a very large organisation, we can give the volunteer all the skills and experience needed to try something similar or related themselves. We are able to offer a position for two people at a time. The most important aspect is to help us teach the workshops (ceramics and other art media such as painting, film animation, paper work, drawing, crafts) and we encourage volunteers to develop their own ideas and projects with our supervision.

‣ Volunteers are also involved in all other aspects of the project such as managing the centre (we would involve them in the day to day running of the centre); gallery co-ordination, organising events; producing and distributing outreach materials, website work, replying to emails, grant applications (a very useful skill to learn), having their own exhibition in the gallery if they wish and become an 'artist of the month'.

‣ The aim of the EVS project is to encourage intercultural learning, to help the volunteer improve their artistic skills and creativity, to share knowledge, feelings, experiences, art and creativity across cultures so that both the volunteers learn from their experience in the city and Czech culture and that the local community can be enriched by the volunteers and the culture and experience they bring.

‣ Overall volunteers can gain the knowledge, skills, and experience on all aspects of our centre, all they would need to know to start up something similar themselves in their own country. For example we have had art themes related to the myths, stories and artistic traditions/techniques from their own countries, for both children and adult workshops. Each volunteer from has done this and enriched the space and the local community. Film, images, dress and cultural (and food) nights in connection with their culture and country has also been an important and popular aspect of the association.

‣ As mentioned above, as well as learning from us and supporting us in our projects, the volunteer is encouraged and supported to develop (with our support and guidance) their own projects including events, exhibitions (their own or others), film screenings, and opportunities to develop their own workshop with our support. They will receive adequate supervision at all stages of their EVS project.

‣ Previous volunteers have exhibited their paintings, photographs, films, and developed workshops in animation, paper making, music, Christmas workshop, photography, painting, dry point techniques, etc.

‣ We also provide a mentor to the volunteers who will help them in any needs they may have which can't be dealt with directly by us or if they prefer to talk to someone outside the organisation.

‣ In addition they will be given language classes to learn Czech, focussed on the beginning of their stay to enable them to get to a reasonable level in a short time. We aim to plan the lessons around the specific needs and desires of the volunteer. We will give them all the support they need throughout the project.

‣ The volunteers and association staff work with both adults and children, and with Czechs and foreigners from the local community, with usually between 5-10 in the group (with children sometimes up to maximum 15).

‣ Below is a typical timetable of ‾two weeks in the association’ to get a more concrete idea of the kind of activities the volunteers will engage in, although this is very flexible and depends greatly on the volunteer’s specific interests and skills.

WEEK I. MO pottery work: making new pieces, learning/experimenting with new techniques, emptying-filling kiln, glazing- preparation of new glazes. (1-6pm)
TU helping with kids and adult pottery workshop (1-6pm)
WE adults pottery workshop (10-1pm)
THU leafleting around the city (buying stuff for coming workshops) (afternoon)

SA kids Saturday workshop (helping), Volunteers workshop (eg. painting, animation, craft, etc). (10-5pm).
There is some extra time available for the volunteers to do work on their own artistic projects and the space and materials are theirs to use. They are also encouraged to use their time to organise cultural events or exhibitions if they wish. Weekend work occurs on average two days a month.
