Resumo: The working environment is our 90s.m. office at 160A Drossopoulou Str., first floor. At the office work the signatory (President of the organization), Dr. Aliki Mitsakos (Responsible for Educational Programmes and Secretary General of the organization), one or two paid secretariat employees and one or two unpaid interns from greek universities. The establshment includes desks, computers for everyone as well as all means of communication (telephone lines, Internet, fax, photocopier). There is also a meeting room, where at least once a week a meeting between all employees occurs for opinion exchange, responsibility distribution and progress control upon the work of each of them in terms of the programme they have undertaken. During the summer months (1 July to 15 August) part of the employees of GAAEC is transferred to the premises of the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania in Crete, where our educational programmes are conducted. At those premises a fully equipped secretariat space is provided as well as accommodation and meals for everyone involved in our programmes.
The initiative of "Aristoteles" launched in 2006 and is directed to non-Greek young people. It preferably includes long-term volunteering commitment in our premises in the city. The successful volunteers have numerous duties including:
1. Organizing regular national and international events, such as IIPES, "Kernels of Our Future", the activities of the Euro-Mediterranean Institute of Journalism, as well as participating in the Association's correspondance to its duties towards ATA and EuroDefence (such as organizing and participating in international meetings and Assemblies),
2. Maintaining and updating the official website of the Association and updating our regular e-newsletter,
3. Organizing and presenting our youth programmes on regional, national and international level,
4. Conducting research and writing publications on the European identity of the youth and
5. Presenting the EVS prorgramme to non-governmental organizations and networks.
The year 2006 saw the association opening its doors to a number of international volunteers, providing them with international working experience and enriching the association with a new and dynamic multicultural component. Within the European Voluntary Service, the association offers young European citizens the opportunity to complete a long-term voluntary service (from 8 months to a year, without excluding short-term programmes) in its the city office under a project called "Listen to us - Young European citizens/Aristoteles". This project aims at empowering young people therefore empowering communities at a cultural, educational and economic level. Our organization gives the opportunity to international volunteers to take part actively in several local, national, and international activities endeavouring to develop their European and International citizenship awareness, to promote Youth involvement, to sustain integration and to emphasize intercultural relations.
GAAEC is accredited as sending and host organization for the European Voluntary Service (reference number 2008-GR-38) which is a program of YOUTH in Action, Action 2 finansed by the European Union.
Perfil: The volunteers have to enjoy communicating with people, be cooperative, sociable, friendly and fluent English speakers. They have to have basic computer knowledge, be able to promote the European Voluntary Service, be practical and have organisational and management skills. Priority will be given to people interested in cultural development, European integration, and youth's contemporary issues including educational advancement. Interest in gender issues, especially related to education and International Security, is welcomed.

Additionally to what we have published on our webpages, we have a quite extended network of alumni of our eduactional programmes, cominng from approximately fourty countries. Through this netwoks, we announce any new volunteering vacancies that we have and accept applications, whose evaluation is always conducted by a commitee of professors and under the supervision of the Dr. Aliki Mitsakos, who is in charge of the educational affairs. This commitee suggests the appropriate candidates and the council of GAAEC decides. There are no preferences in gender, religion or nationality, as long as the volunteers satisfy the determined selection criteria.
Age: 18 until 30 years old.
Tarefas: Part of our dynamic working team, our volunteers actively participate to all organisational aspects of several national and international activities, such as IIPES, Kernels of our Future, the General Assemblies of ATA, the International Meetings of EURODEFENSE, The Euro-Mediterranean Journalism Institute and the Fellowship program on International Security and Cooperation - the contribution of a new generation. The responsibilities of the EVS volunteers include: Organisation of regular events; Edition and running of the association e-newsletter and website; Organisation of YOUTH and EVS presentation events to local youth groups; Research and publication of articles related to issues of European citizenship in the young population and publicising international volunteering to NGOs and Networks. Special issues and projects such as gender involvement can be implemented depending on volunteers' interests. The opportunities given to volunteers are going to make them confident about their organisational and management skills and offer them great experience in a democratic environment helping them to fulfil their future dreams more easily.
