Resumo: The project takes place in the city, North-Hungary the 4th largest town of the country with 170 000 inhabitatants. It is located near the BA1kk National Park that gives outstanding possibility for any kind of outdoor activities. Thank to that situation people who live here can also enjoy the high cavern water running from the taps.
From economic point of view North-Hungary is not the most developed area of the country. There used to be heavy industry in the town and some parts of the town empty plants can be seen.
Luckily the town has real historical heritage goes back to the 14th century when The King was bulilt a hunting castle and spend most of his time here. The Castle of Diosgyor is one of the cultural and festival center of the region. (theatre, concerts, medieval festival etc.)
If you are interested in music and theatre the city is a place for you. The town has theatres, cinemas, concert halls and the International Opeara Festival in every summer.
Worth visiting:
- National Theatre of city. The building was the precursor of today's Hungarian first stone theater in Hungary (1823).
- Otto Herman museum, one of the largest and richest museum with permanent and temporary exhibitions.
- The Arboretum Avas is the richest collection of live conifer in Hungary.
- Miskolctapolca is 5 km far from the city center in a recreation area, surrounded by a large park. The park is next to the Miskolctapolca cave bath, which isunique in Europe.
In leisure-time, it is possible to visit the city’s swimming pools or fitness rooms, or you can play tennis. In the evenings pubs offer a number of different programs for all ages in the city centre.
Thanks to the University of the city with 10 thousansd of students and several high schools there is a large community of young people. The university has international courses, we have international companies and bilingual high schools with native speaker teachers you can find a real international environment.
Perfil: We are looking for open-minded volunteers who can accommodate easily and open to the new challenges who are socially sensitive and helpful. The volunteers should feel sympathy with the disabled people and have skills to cooperate and work with these people. Regarding that our foundation help people live with different disabilities social sensitivity and tolerancy is a must.
Volunteers can find us in the database of EVS and after we got an inquiry we ask for a detailed CV and motivation letter. Every candidate has equal chance to be a volunteer at the association. We read the documents thoroughly and we make a common decision in our regular weekly meetings (manager of the foundation, project leader and the people who effectively work with the volunteers). Regarding that we have been involved in the EVS from 2007 we have connections with several sending organizations but we would like to cooperate with sending organizations that have a similar profile than ours.
Volunteers come to us to help and support our activities. Our main aim is to develop our young people, to give useful experinence to the volunteers, make intercultural connection between people with different backgournd and culture.
Age: 18 until 30 years old.
Tarefas: We prefer long term service 6-12 months regarding that the main activities related to our young people live with different disabilities and they need more time to accept and to accommodate to a new person than other people. The association has a very important role in this region in the social field we provide different services: residential homes, day-care support, emplyoment, rehabilitation, transport etc.
The volunteers can give useful help to our clients in our handicraft workshops where they produce souvenirs like candles, paper materials, carpets. Volunteers can work in our rehabilitation farm both in the organic garden and in the stable with goats and horses. We prepare goat cheese, the volunteers can also help in this procedure. The volunteers take part in the personal development programme of the clients like dance therapy, drama, swimming. The foundation plays an active role in the social field not only in the region but also in country level and we often organize meeting for professionals and have guest from other countries, too. The volunteers help us both in the preparation of theese meetings and during the event.
The volunteers help us in different activities and besides work they also has a unique role in the development of the lives of our clients who have hardly any opportunity to get to know other young people from other countries. The clients "forced" to communicate in a different way than with the other people who they know for ages. It means a lot in their personal development and some of them are also able to know some words in a different language.
Our volunteers gaine a lot of experience here and through nonformal and informaly learning process they can improve their personal skills and capacities. Volunteers attend Hungarian language course, they take part in the EVS meetings and trainings and other local events organized in the town but also in other places of the county.
We are open to new initatives, new ideas coming from the volunteers and give help them to manage their "own projects".
