Resumo: The association is located in Konala and Pitäjänmäki which are in West-city. The area is urban, in modest Finnish way. People are mostly middle-class and the area is quite peaceful with several social and health service providers are located here. The people in the area are not very active socially, politically or religiously, so there is lot of things to do for our little association. Our people are well received in the community because we do work in the people's gardens, we make the environment aesthetic and we arrange social activities.
Our international volunteers live with host families, which are not related to the association. We are not able to house any volunteers at the moment.

Perfil: We would like to receive volunteers, who are interested in working with people with intellectual and learning disabilities. Previous experience is not needed. The volunteer should be interested in working with people, social and learning skills are appreciated. We are an active community, so willing to do all sorts of things during the volunteer year is a must. Due to the Finnish weather, we seek volunteers that are not afraid of working outdoors in any weather! It's fun and healthy too! The volunteer will experience some responsibilities in the work, so reliable adult mentality is needed.
Maailmanvaihto ry provides us with pre-selected group of volunteers, out of which we choose the volunteers together with the teams and clients. We consider ourselves to be quite equal and non-discriminative in our decision making, and we are able to report the reasons for our decisions. We have had volunteers from several countries also outside Europe, and we also have a multicultural professional staff working in the association.
We do not accept volunteers, if we think we are not able to provide the needed support or answer the motivators of the volunteers. We would like to contact the applicants also ourselves, so we are able to talk "face-to-face", and clear any misconceptions and answer your questions. We wish to improve our volunteer support through co-operation with our volunteers.
Age: 18 until 30 years old.

Tarefas: The work is related to media e.g. radio, video, blogs and articles and working in the music studio. All of the tasks are done together with people with intellectual and learning disabilities supporting and co-operating them in their projects. The project includes traveling inside Finland. Good social skills, motivation to work with people with special needs and skills or interest in media are required in these tasks.
