Resumo: The organization is located in a small town 190 km Northeast from capital of Latvia. There are around 9000 inhabitants. 90% of them have Latvian nationality. The town is a typical Latvian town, with 1-2 storey buildings, with the Soviet model residential neighborhoods and the city center, but certainly with its unique atmosphere and beauty. There is still operating the only passenger Narrow Gauge Railway in the Baltic States which runs every day from the town to Aluksne and back. Around 200 hectares of town are occupied by parks. Although there are public buses, all main destinations are reachable by 10-20 min walk.

Inhabitant of the town is a reserved, low-keyed person with his own point of view. People are basically working in the provision of services, trades, sewing, and woodworking. Because of the economic crisis many families have at least 1 member who has left in the town, Latvia, and work abroad. But people are kind and helpful. During the year in the town and district there are happening different events and activities that are traditional or culturally typical only in this place. There is a natural beauty around the town that gives this region its own `taste`.

Climate in the town can be characterized by a transition from a Latvian maritime climate to a continental climate. Winters are colder than the southern and western parts of Latvia. The coldest months are January and February. Average temperature then drops to -6.5C. But it can be also around -20C. Also summer is cooler than the Latvian southern regions. Usually it is around +20C but sometimes can jump to +30C.

Since 2007 there are 1-2 EVS volunteers per year in the hosted by local youth center. Starting from 2013 in the municipality is working to develop voluntary work also in other institutions and we are hoping to be a successful part of it.

About kindergarten
Working day will be 6-7 hours per day. Officially kindergarten is open from 7.00 till 19.00. Volunteer`s working hours could be between 9.00 and 17.00 including 1 hour lunch break. Lunch can be organized together with children or volunteer can be free to go out. Activities will be organized together with a group teacher. Also an EVS project coordinator in host organization will be available every day.
At the beginning of EVS project we will offer also a structure for volunteer-which activities in each group every day. Later after adaption we are very open for volunteer`s own initiative. After few weeks volunteer will learn and find out about all possible activities and definitely will understand what he/she likes the most. Then we will offer an opportunity and necessary assistance to organize and realize own initiatives and activities. All activities can be together with group teachers.
Kindergarten has a free Wi-Fi access and will provide all practical materials for volunteer`s activities.

Other information
In free time volunteers can also take part in different other activities outside kindergarten, for example, to participate in local sport, cultural and other traditional activities (dancing, music school, folk group, art school, etc.).
We have a good cooperation with local volunteers. Local youngsters have been involved in organizing bigger events and also teaching English for children.
We start to work also with other international projects. For now we applied for a Comenius project.
Accommodation for volunteer will be organized by our coordinating organization. It will either be shared between 2 persons or a separate place depending on a project. Pocket money in Latvia is 80 EUR per month. For eating and local communication (mobile card) we will provide around 140-150 EUR per month.

Perfil: We are expecting a volunteer with at least some experience with pre-school children-whether in own family or outside family, with at least finished basic education. The main criteria in choosing a volunteer will be his/her motivation.

Preferred (but not obligatory) skills and attitudes:
- basic English (for daily communication and for playing with kids);
- some artistic skills are desired (handicrafts, musical or others that can be used in working with kids);
- to be able to do the simpler residential work in order to help caring about the children;
- openness in communication, sincerity and willingness to act.

According to Latvian laws a person (also a volunteer) working with kids can`t be criminally and administratively liable.
Recruitment process will be organized openly. Information about vacancy first will be sent to our current municipality partners and then spread via different electronic canals. We will select volunteers together with representatives from our coordinating organization that has a big experience in EVS projects and volunteer work in general.

Tarefas: Possible voluntary work activities in our kindergarten:
1) to play with 5 and 6 year olds and thus teach them English and learn also Latvian;
2) learning by doing - any sort of work together with the staff and children;
3) assistance to children in household skills and learning process;
4) volunteer’s own cultural and traditions activities;
5) involvement in daily activities, helping children to dress, walking, playing, sport events and all other daily activities and events and their preparation;
6) learning Latvian language and traditions.
7) as we are participating in eco environment project, we can offer all what we do in relation to this. As music is important part of program methodology, we can offer to participate in this kind of activities, to teach other culture traditions and also learn Latvian traditions through music. Volunteer can choose to participate in organizing different bigger musical and sport events as well as traditional Latvian festival celebration such as Easter, Christmas, St. Michael, and St. Martin etc.
