Resumo: The hosting organization is located in one of the largest city of the district of Magnesia. Its population exceeds 150.000. The main is working class, although, because of its geographical position (the city is a harbour and also is near the Aegean sea), many new businesses are established here, mainly in the terms of entertainment and tourism. Awareness of disability and more particularly mental-health issues is at a medium level but organisations that operate in this field are considerably few.

we imagine that there is not enough space to outline the different activities and chances a young person can have in this city. Thanks to its privileged position at the foot of Mt.

Pelion on the Pagasitic gulf, it is a good base for enjoying the sea, wooded slopes, and green valleys that surround it. As for the derivation of the word, which according to a Byzantine historian of the 14th century was called "Golos", there are several theories; the most widely accepted is that it represents a corruption of the Mycenaean Iolkos. Founded in the mid 19th century, modern, is a cheerful, lively town, soundly laid out with pleasant broad streets. The waterfront is an ideal spot for a stroll. A modern coastal avenue bustling with life, it is lined with pastry shops, cafes and restaurants. From the suburb of Ano, built upon the slopes of Pelion, the Pagasitic gulf and the town below take on another dimension. The town harbour is particularly active. It is the main export centre of Thessaly and the scene of much commercial and passenger traffic bound for the Sporades.

Situated in Middle Greece, you need 4 hours to Athens and 2 hours to Thesalloniki. There are regular connections with those cities, but also with Larissa, which is the biggest city in the region of Thessalia. either by bus or by train.

Perfil: The organization is open to accept volunteers of different backgrounds. However, the significance of mental-health services obligates us to set a number of if makings in order to have a project that can benefit the volunteers, the service users and our organisation.

English should be well spoken and understood. We are looking for young people that are honestly interested in mental-health and ideally have some experience or even better qualifications related to disability. Common sense, sensitivity, willingness to learn and adapt, patience, teamwork and creativity are only a few of the characteristics that should be apparent. As it is clear, we would give priority to those volunteers with interest in social field, strongly motivated to dedicate his/her time to children, adolescents and adults with disabilities and mental retardation, who are living in their houses but spend their days in the structures of the organization
age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: 1. Patients social skills development (includes accompanying them in social excursion, walks, museum visits, etc)
2. Patients learning skills activities (assisting in the process of learning through creative art, theatre groups and game playing)
3. Kinetic activities for patients (assisting in sports and other kinetic activities like dance, gym, etc.
4. assisting the training process in the productive workshop of DOYK (a unit operating for the work reintegration of service users)
5. assisting in other organisational activities
It is important to mention that we would like our volunteers to get involved in diversified activities and therefore ideally they will take part in all of the above. Nonetheless, activities of volunteers will be discussed with the volunteer in order to fit the two and give the volunteer the possibility to have an active role. After discussion and careful consideration a weekly timetable will be produced for each volunteer.

The volunteers will be given four hours a week Greek lessons.

They will have two days a week off and twenty days off for holidays (for a six month programme). IAAA‘ tutor will be in charge of their organisation and for giving support to them when needed conceding any aspect of their project and their staying. We give great importance to the well being of our volunteers and accordingly, they will have the opportunity to talk with our psychologist at anytime. Also, the first week of their arrival there will be an introduction to our organisation and subsequently in the town and the Pelion mountain We do that to ensure that the volunteer can have an overall view of the place.
