Resumo: The hosting organization is located in the city, a coastal town of about 80,000 inhabitants, at the western end of Sicily, 100 km from Palermo.

The traditional work activities are fishing and agriculture, but in recent decades the area has become an important tourist destination. The city has the railway station, a marina, a fishing port and an airport with 30 international destinations; in this way, it is well connected to major Italian and European cities and to Maghreb countries. The climate is very favorable throughout the year and you can go hiking in a lot of sites of archaeological , natural and cultural interest, these sites are within a small distance from the city. In town there are shops, supermarkets, gyms, hospitals, offices, schools and beach and there are also some university faculty. The locals are very friendly and cheerful. They value a lot their traditions: in particular, crafts and cuisine are very important. The volunteers have no difficulties in integrating into the community, but it's very important they learn Italian, because few people speak other languages. The cost of living is low-medium.

Despite these positive aspects, because of its geographical position, historical events and conservative mentality, local community is static and quite provincial. In our district there is not much attention to culture and creativity and there aren't many place for the organized fun. The population is old; finished school, the majority of young people move to other Italian cities. In addition, there are some poor areas in a city where children grow up without support and they can not develop their full potential.

Regarding the EVS activities, their work is added to that of teachers and trainers. These are responsible for the training of volunteers on different field: guided tours are organized in the city and nearby cieties, there are lectures about local institutions, courses of language, computer science and first aid, meetings to describe the educational techniques and the organization of the organization.

Tarefas: ùAs regards the activities of the volunteers, according to their abilities and interests we try to develop new and creative ideas to rework and update the historical traditions: such are the 'Puppet Theatre', the traditional tales, folk music and gastronomy. With these issues we want to produce works of art, exhibitions and documentaries.

We also want to organize: showings of films chosen together with volunteers, organization of constructive group-games, participation in periodical events in the city and surroundings, such as "Mysteries" in the city, the "San Vito Jazz Festival ", the" Cous Cous Fest ", the "invitation S. Joseph" in Salemi, the theatrical review in the Ancient Theatre of Segesta and also some literary festivals and sporting events.

Once a month, volunteers and educators of the Association will meet to evaluate their activities. Volunteers will work with educators to publish the results of the project "Accessible and Sustainable Tourism". In this way, we'll convey some points of reference and advices from our volunteers, who will know places and structures. With their collaboration, we want to keep updated our website with all the information about training and working opportunities in the area and with the information for disabled tourists.

The volunteers, together with educators of the Association, may hold meetings at high schools, to promote the EVS activities and communicate their experiences to the youth of the city.

These activities allow volunteers to develop two principal competencies: the first is the knowledge of the area, its history, its community, its potential. The second is the skill related to sustainable and accessible tourism, its organization and communication. Volunteers also have the opportunity to acquire a computer knowledge (Internet and Office), required for the project, and knowledge of Italian.

In addition to the projects we have worked out, there will be a large availability for the ideas of the volunteers, which we consider an active part of our Association.

Volunteers will be engaged in the activities of the Association for the most part in the afternoon. During the morning and evening, on weekends and on holidays, they can organize their own time and they can be guests of the members of our Association. It should be noted that the city hasn't many occasions of entertainment, so the best pastime is to spend time together with people.

In our staff there are educators and psychologists, who give a complete and constant assistance for young people with fewer opportunities. The activities take place in premises without architectural barriers.

Condições: Volunteers can choose to be hosted in some trust families, in a rented apartment or in many rooms of the premises of our Association.

In all cases, appropriate certifications ensure the safety and suitability of the structure in which they live and work (ISO 9001:2008). In addition, the Association awards single or double rooms, depending on type of accommodation.
