Resumo: Latvia is an Eastern European country near the Baltic Sea, with 2.5 million inhabitants. The hosting organization is situated in a middle - sized Latvian town located in the Southeast of the country. The distance from the town to the capital city Riga is 242 km. Some 42 thousand people inhabit the town. They have different nationalities, the most part of them are Latvians and Russians. The town is rich in nature's gifts. The area of the region is famous for its lakes and hills, parks and woods that are a decoration for the town and excellent opportunities of recreation for visitors and inhabitants. There is a Higher Educational Institution, Music College, Art College and theatres in the city and the town is famous for its unique ceramics, handcrafts and its traditions.

In the town there are a lot of national minorities. So the people live very friendly in multinational and multicultural society respecting each other with mutual understanding. For the volunteers who come to our town there will be opportunity to live in the multinational society and get some experience and knowledge about new European country, Latvian culture and Latgalian traditions.

Perfil: The kindergarten would like to welcome two young Europeans between the ages of 18 and 25 who show interest and sensibility towards children and be able to use and show empathy, integrity and consideration. All skills which can allow them to develop new animations in our centre are welcomed. We hope they are ready to take creative duties and to be responsible and self sufficient enough to propose, prepare and organise new activities and their own work according to these skills.

The volunteers should be dynamic and enthusiastic about working with young children and ready to be involved in all aspects of the work involved in the kindergarten. This will be everything from playing games to going for walks. The volunteers must also be prepared to put themselves forward, to try new things and want to organise their own activities. They should also be keen to learn about new cultures and people as they will be in a multicultural environment and this should go hand in hand with the volunteers part to help the local people understand their cultures.

Tarefas: During the EVS the volunteer will have the possibility to gain practical and professional skills (for instance will learn Latvian and Russian languages, will practise PC skills), as well social skills (communication, intercultural learning). The volunteer will be learning through the reflection and supervision which will be provided by the hosting and coordinating organization. The volunteer will get to know the theoretical as well the practical principles how to work with children. She/he will learn alternative ways of communications and being patient. The volunteer will get to know a special education methods which are used for children´s education. She/he will learn how to approach and take care of kids and will learn how does Latvian education system work.

The volunteer is supposed to work under the guidance of our special education teacher and to cooperate with our educational assistants and other staff-members. The volunteer will participate in all daily activities. The volunteer will be suported during his/her service by the mentor in Hosting organization.
Tipical activities are: self-help training, talking to children, language lessons, music, dance, sport, "locomotor" games, fine motor skills training, comunication, swimming in pool.

The volunteer is supposed to participate in following activities: assisting the teacher during the workshops; support activities related to meals serving; preparing the lessons and education tools

Everyday activities: helping the kids to change clothes after their arrival to pre-school, before and after walk and going to swimming pool; going for a walkand swimming pool with children;
strengthening the self-help activities and hygienic and eating habits of the children; music lessons, developing of children's music perception; giving english lessons through games; developing the motor skills, assisting to children during working with toys, puzzles, educational tools; assisting to children during working with non-traditional materials; developing the communication skills of the children; work with children in swimming pool; preparing wall-exhibitions of the paintings and drawings made by the children; participating in events organized by the pre-school.

According to the wish of the volunteers they will offered to will help to orginize some common intercultural activities in the coordinating organization in order to interact with the society and youth sharing information about their own cultures, exchanging of our views on different traditions, our experiences and learning some new things from each other.
