Resumo: 13 kindergarten teachers are taking care for 123 children aged one to seven years in age-mixed groups. Remedial teachers take care for six children with special physical and mental needs.
The kindergarten is situated in the city centre. Very close we have the church, the palace, the castle, the church Frauenkirche and the historical quarter. The institution is easy to reach by public transport.
The capital with approximately 450000 inhabitants live there. The city is situated 60 km away from the Czech border and 150 km away from Prague. The cityt has many cultural events and the whole historical city centre. The city offers many leisure time activities as sport, culture, live music, disco and pubs. The colorful quarter offers many points of interests like art galleries, pubs and alternative offers.
The Saxonian mountains with the famous sand stone rocks. You can reach that mountains within 1 hour. Here you can have a hiking tour, a climb on a rock or just do some sport.
The city has a good connection to national and international destinations. It is easy to access further German cities or cities of bording countries. There is a very good public transport system in the city with which you can also explore bording areas.
With its high grow rate the city is next to Leipzig one of the most attractive city in our new federal states.A lot of academics, young adults and families settled in the city.
The city is one of three cities in Saxony where a few big businesses settled down. There is car production, IT production and the very modern medical-technical university.
The hinterland of the institution is the historical quarter of the city. Many migrants stay there. There are also many families where at least on of the parents has a migration background. Approximately 35 up to 40 percent of our children have a migration background.
Perfil: Characteristics of the volunteers
To be hosted the volunteers should have the following characteristics: kindness, openness, engagement, flexibility, patience, independence, responsibility, resilience, conflict resolution skills and the willingness for teamwork. We hope they will be happy to work with various children, youth and families.
They should have the wish to realize their own projects and share their ideas with us. Openes and understanding for children with special needs we see as a matter of course. We expect the volunteers to be ready to deepen their German language skills. Only a few colleagues speak English. So it is important to have some basic language skills in German. Otherwise communication in the team will become difficult.
Additionally we hope the volunteers take over their daily tasks independently. Of course we are ready to support them in the areas where help is necessary.
The 7 volunteers will be accommodated in two flats with 3 and 4 rooms. We take for granted that the volunteers keep their flat tidy. That means they have to clean all rooms, the kitchen and the bath room regularly. If the house rules say so the volunteers have also to take over cleaning responsibility for the house and its surroundings. The flats have a good condition. Each volunteer will have his/her own room with bed, wardrobe, table and chair. The full furnished bath room and kitchen will be shared. The rooms have different sizes. That means not everyone will get the same room size.
Selection process:
We publish our vacant places at youthnetwork. Basically we respond to all requests as far as we can recognize a real interest. If the minimum requirements will not be fulfilled we inform the volunteers and their sending organisation about the reasons for the rejection.
Volunteers who fullfill the requirements will receicve a application form which helps to get a better picture about the motivation for the EVS and the capacities. Incoming applications will be synchronized with our expectations and the host project team. We give our best to find a good volunteer and take into account the origin, gender and language skills.
We forward the applications to the host project and the project makes the decision. WE inform the volunteer and the sending organisation immediately.
We cooperate with all sending organisations.Age: 18 until 30 years old.
Tarefas: The main focus of our work is integration. Each and every child has his or her own way of develoPMent. It is important to recognize and support this way. We want to make differences conscious and integrate it in the daily work. The children shall experience: Differences make us rich.
Additional activities:
- visit of a swimming course with preschool children
- preschool gymnastics (our sport group goes twice a week in the gym)
Role of the volunteer
We hope the volunteer will bring in his or her own culture and accept the diverse cultures of the children and families. A demand may be the work with families with migrational background. Often there is another understanding of the roles in a family. We hope the volunteers will his or her cultural background sensitive and accommodate to the needs and wishes of children and families. They should implement their own experiences with taking care and education.
Activities, learning opportunities and tasks of volunteers
- volunteers should support the kindergarten teachers by the support of creativity and social competences of the children by cooperative playing, by the enlargement of motor abilities the strengthening of cognition abilities
- a special incentive in our institution is the work with many different nationalities. App. 40% of our children have migrational background with other conditions, cultures and claims. Volunteers can test themselves and get known to other children and cultures. One idea could be assist parents and children by presenting their own country. The volunteer can use his/her personal experiences with his service in Germany and develop offers for parents and children. Topics could be “being foreign in Germany” or inter-culturality.
Additional tasks are:
- to accompany children groups for diverse expeditions in the close souroundings
- get to know the historical center: project „I live in this beautyful city“. The volunteer could give children of other countries an understanding as home city.
– to support children of all ages in their gross motor skills and to organize little sport fests
- to accompany children to the swimm courses
- participation at diverse events and activities for our children related to the preparation of school enrolement (preschool year)
- we also support any suiting own idea of the volunteers and expressly interested to realize them since those ideas give a new impulses to our work
Group Project
In the city we have 5 hostingprojects.
The collaborative project of volunteers in 5 partner hosting projects is an important part of the EVS. We expect synergy effects for volunteers and the host projects by cooperation. The group project is planned as follows:
We want to develop and implement various projects for children, youth and families together with the volunteers of the 5 hosting projects and you. So we can extend our existing offers with an intercultural dimension.
We want to sensitize our target groups for other cultures and other livestyles. The work shall be focused on the target to open the mind and to built interest for the unknown and strange one.
The volunteers contribute their personal cultures and livestyle. They work together on a self chosen collaborative project between the other 5 host projects which will endure during their whole service period. This project is supposed to be repeated or implemented in all other host projects.
The collaborative project which will cover the collection of ideas, the project development and the implementation in the projets will mirror the diverse backgrounds of the diverse volunteers. For example they could plan an intercultural day on which all volunteers present different things of their home countries. Or the volunteers plan a big fest for the social institutions in the city rant by the responsible body in the organization Or they develope special offers for foreign groups living nearby the hostingprjects. The social pedagogue Torsten Siegemund of the Waldspielplatz, will support and initiatiate the collaborative project.
The group of social institutions consists of five organisations and also this project: three kindergartens, a boarding home for children and youth with speech impediments and the Waldspielplatz (forest play ground).
Working conditions
The weekly working hours will be 25 hours in the host project. So we have 10 additional hours for the common project with other volunteers of other host projects.
The work in the kindergarten will happen mostly during the week. The weekends will be mostly days off. Sometimes especially for fests or project overarching activities it is possible volunteers have also to work on weekends.
