Resumo: The Kindergarten is situated in a town that has a population of 120,000, and is one of the fastest growing districts. Nearly 25
percent of its inhabitants are below 18 years old. The eastern section is heavily built up with blocks of flats, while
its western and southern sections are often referred to as project due to its lower population density, broad open
spaces and green areas. The city public transport provide excellent connection with the city centre (underground, buses),
which is why the inhabitants have also access to plenty of theatres, art galleries, museums, clubs, cinemas and other
entertainment. The direct sorrounding the Kindergarten offers a huge variety of views, types of urban landscape and
different activities.
The Kindergarten cooperates with social and educational organizations in Ursynów. We organize picnics,
spectacles, workshops and games together, most of them also in cooperation with support of Ursynów municipality. Parents
are involved in our activites and through them our connection to local community in general is even stronger.
Perfil: The target group is quite demanding, therefore the requirements for volunteers might seem demanding and specific. For this
activity we are looking for responsible persons that are ready to take on challenges working with mentally handicapped youth.
It is very important that the volunteers are conscious about the nature of work and despite the difficult character of it motivated
to join our team. The volunteers should be mature, patient and persistent persons that have team spirit but could also be able
to work independently. It would be good, if the candidates would be creative persons that are willing to come up with their
own ideas and implement them during their stay in our organization. Volunteers will have the possibility not to limit themselves only to actions already organized place in the Kindergarten but also to develop their own activities outside the organization – for example in sorrounding locations in the district or even during trips and camps to the seaside or the mountains. Bearing in mind the target group and to avoid the possible misunderstandings it would be also good, if the volunteers have at least basic understanding and sensitivity about the issues related to work with mentally disabled youth.
During the recruitment process we are open to all candidates. We expect motivated young people to send their CV and
motivation letter to our coordinating organization. To make sure that we choose the most suitable and motivated candidates,
they will carry out also small telephone conversations with the candidates and might ask for opinion from their sending
organization. The volunteers will also have the chance to ask us all the questions that interest them before making the final
decision about choosing this host organization.
Age: 18 until 30 years old
Tarefas: The Kindergarten can offer volunteers new learning opportunities. For volunteers interested in work with menthally disabled people this could be a unique chance to make use of already gained knowledge. The volunteers will have an opportunity to gain new experience and practice different skills (e.g. organizational, communication, foreign language, team work, living among people with different cultural and social background, creativity, etc.). Volutneers will learn about different therapeutic methods, participate in educational therapy for pupils, organize activities and workshops for pupils and implement their own little projects and initiatives. Moreover, volunteers will have a chance to get to learn to communicate in Polish, get to know Polish culture, history and traditions. In order to make the contact with the co-workers and pupils easier Polish language support will be provided. The volunteers will have mentorship and supervision during the whole period of EVS project. They will
be able to count on the support of the specialists, other staff and volunteers. The work with disabled teenagers is demanding,
therefore we know that the volunteers will need some trainings and guidelines. Their progress in work with teenagers will be
monitored. At the same time the volunteers will have space for their own creativity and inventions. The staff will be open to
support the initiatives proposed by the volunteers.
Ideal candicates for this Kindergarten would be people that are willing to contribute new ideas, enrich the range of proposed
activities for the pupils, participate in classes and help the staff. The volunteers will always be supported by the teachers and
therapists. Together with the trained staff they will help the pupils in everyday activities (e.g. dressing up and changing clothes, meals, toilet). Moreover, they will organize and prepare workshops for them (e.g. artwork, musical activities, physiotherapy and physical recreation, theatre activities, culture education, favourite pastimes). Another important task would be the process of integrating pupils with the local community by involving them in local events, organizing excursions, visting theatres, cinemas, swimming pools, parks, etc. so the pupils are visible and people know they are active and do something for the community. The final aim of such activities would be an important increase in people’s awareness, that they might meet disabled people in their direct neighbourhood, young people which are a part of the same community and are equally important members of society.
The volunteers could also together with the pupils prepare traditional Polish feast for local mentally retarded people and for their families (e.g. Christmas, Easter, Grandmother’s Day, St. Andrew’s Day), in order to gather families, staff, volunteers and pupils in one place and create an atmosphere of confidence and security. The volunteers could also help to take care about the pupil during weekly camps held by the seaside or in the mountains.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to meet a lot of young people, local volunteers, teachers, therapists and assistants, spend their free time with them and get to know the local culture and traditions better. Young staff members can assure a friendly,
relaxed athmosphere in the kindergarten and after hours. We form a group of friends and volunteers are always invited to hang
out with us and spend free time doing something fun.
