Resumo: The hosting organization is situated in a city and municipality in eastern Croatia, and the biggest river port in Croatia located at the confluence of the river. The city is the center of the county. The city's registered population was 30,126 in the 2001 census, with up to 31,670 in the municipality.
The city was one of the decisive points in the war of 1991.in Ex-Yugoslavia, and completely destroyed during the war and up to now it has not been rebuilt properly. Due to the circumstances that no bigger companies have been allowed to open factories here in the region, there is a high rate of unemployment, and it is especially hard for young people, and most of them strive to leave the town and region. The population is practically equally made up of Serbs and Croats, with some members of minorities (Ruthinians, Hungarians, Slovakians, Ukrainians, Roma,). As from kindergarten on, there is segregation between Serbs and Croats, and it is very hard to bring them both together without any prejudices. It is a process which will take some time, and which is one of the main focus of the hosting organization work.
The community of this small town, with the basic infrastructure, supermarkets, post office, different shops, doctors and hospitals, theatre, different coffee bars and some places to go out.
Volunteers will be placed in the organization premises as idea is if there is for example 3 of theme to overlap so volunteers can help each other and be support. If there is more volunteers there would be other house rented.
Perfil:
We would like to host an open-minded, enthusiastic person regardless of gender, age or ethnicity. We need a person with strong motivation, critical thinking, responsible, creative, diligent, punctual, IT literacy, to have competences in youth and community work and develop own ideas. The volunteer should be able to integrate him/herself in our team, and to give support wherever it is needed.
The organization is highly professional youth organisation with developed recruitment procedures. In this case recruitment process includes detailed data base of all received applications with three panel members who will participate in decision making process. Those panel members will go through all applications with developed set of criteria for volunteers based on organisational needs and planned activities. All applicants would be informed about recruitment process and results by e-mail.

The organization would like to cooperate with organisations and volunteers with similar values and principles as well as programme areas.

Tarefas: Volunteer will have opportunity to participate at language course provided by member of the organization or if he/she wish, ih the local language school. Volunteer will also have opportunity to explore cultural heritage, historical importance of the area, to meet and see different ethical groups and their customs and different cultures, to get in-depth knowledge on recent history happenings, current economic, social and political situation in town and region, to meet similar and other civil society organisation in the town and region, to have opportunity for intercultural learning (if volunteering in period of cultural manifestation in the town e.g. the Film Festival), to have opportunity to try local cuisine. As our working language is mainly English, and as many parts of our work have to be done in English, language fluency would be an advantage, and he/she does not have to worry about not being able to work when not speaking Croatian.
Volunteer will get every kind of support that he/she will need, by the staff and members of our organization as well as by his/her volunteer mentor. He/she will have the possibility to participate in different regional, national, and international seminars and training courses, in order to increase efficiency of his/her work. Also, he/she will have the possibility to regularly meet with his/her volunteer mentor and also to speak with people from the organization if problems occur.
Role of the volunteer is to be a part of the team. Volunteer will have opportunity to participate in the members meetings and to contribute with his/her own ideas and suggestions.
(1) Art & culture activities: The volunteer will be involved in the organization, preparation and implementation of the activities - art& craft, theatre, music workshops, organising festivals, dance classes, photo workshops, video, graffiti, comic books workshops, street art with young artists and youth from the town.
One of the possibilities is to provide the opportunity for artists to participate in regional exchanges which occur during the all duration of the project. This will be the opportunity to show young and talented artists from other participating countries at the festivals, as well as using the highly public perception to promote our project. Beside that workshops and other activities will enrich the festivals: Music documentaries presentation about the ways of creating scenes and connections. This could inspire local musicians and other artists to get more active.
Balkan Streets Festival is festival of alternative and progressive music for young people in the town and wider region.
It is organizing every year and it lasts for 2 - days. The festival is a part of above mentioned urbane culture week that lasts for minimum 7 days in Jun/July and it is consisted of: Music program; Documentary music films projections; Street art promotion activities such as graffiti creating, street theatre and dance, poi…Youth fair promoting activities for young people in the town.
Volunteer will also support promotion of art and culture in the multi-ethnic society of the Balkans by creating and consulting new inter-regional and intra-regional partnerships, To strengthen and create new connections between cultural organisations at the Balkans and EU countries.
(2) European awareness: raising awareness of young people on European awareness and citizenships, democracy and human rights
(3) Office work in general: The volunteer will be asked to help in the office, to take care of in-and outgoing E-mails, work on workshop and activity planning and AOB in administration needed.

(5) Various activities for community benefit: As some of volunteers are living in the premises of the organization, we hope that the volunteer will support us in small house repair and maintenance work.
In the organization we have few steps in introducing a new volunteer in our work. Upon arrival there will be a presentation of the hosting organization where the volunteer will have induction day, familiarising with the premises and the organization activities and will be introduced to the staff. In a second step, he/she will get more insight in the function of each work area, and the related project details, and concrete working schedule will be developed in accordance to the volunteer competences and interests.
The working hours will be flexible so the volunteer will have enough time for personal development and free time activities.
Volunteer will also have a chance to create his/her own program in accordance to his/her competences, interests and organisational needs and plans. We expect volunteer to be involved in regular planned the organization programmes and activities.
