Resumo: The main focus of volunteer program will be mainly at the free time activity centre for children and youth threatened by social exclusion.

This is a town with cca 25000 citiziens, it lies right on the boarders with Poland. The town itself has a very rich history, cultural and sports facilities. Because the borders between the Czech and Poland go straight through the town, there are many opportunities to explore both cultures. There are two cinemas, two theatres, some music clubs and pubs. This town is also quite well known for the theatre festival. There is also a fitness centre, bowling club, few sports clubs and more.

The town is easily reached by public transport (bus, train). There are quite a few opportunities for cycling; many biking trails are made in the town and in its surroundings. There could be a bike at volunteer´s disposal so he/she can move more easily around town and outskirts.

It's also very easy to visit other towns and cities in this area (good bus or train connection)- where you can find swimming pools and many sporting and fitness centres, socially and culturally rich towns with theatres, cinemas, clubs, bars, pubs, art galleries etc. There are also opportunities for a further education, art courses, a vast network of services.

The town is also close to the mountains, where there are many opportunities for hiking, biking, and other leisure activities.

The organization itself is located at a less attractive location in the city because that way we are very close to the children and youth in need, who live mainly in this area. The organization is situated in an old after-school care building. The building itself is not ideal, and despite all our efforts to ensure the best possible conditions for all free- time activities, it is obvious that the building is old and it's maintenance is difficult. We are now arranging all things needed to move to a better suited building so in near future, these conditions will be improved.

We employ about 5 workers in total at the organization. The facilities hold a few rooms. One entrance, an office, rooms for social activities and sport, art room with ceramic kiln, special room for private counselling.

The hosting organization has it's office at the town. It's situated in an old villa with classrooms of a free-time language centre Fabule, rooms where we educate teachers. The town are located about 20km from the town and accessible by bus or train connection.

There are other social organisations in this area, working in a similar field as us and they also cooperate with volunteers, so that might be a good contact point for our volunteers.

We will provide volunteer´s accommodation probably by renting an apartment in the town (there is also a possibility to have an accommodation). The catering can be ensured by regular lunches in the restaurant near Strep or individually - according to the agreement with the volunteer, he/she will have an opportunity to cook in the place of accommodation. Our staff will be ready to give him/her information about possibilities of catering in this area.

Perfil: We'd like to work with volunteers that are interested in our line of work that is working with kids and young people, helping them to fill their free time with organised meaningful activities. If the volunteer has had some experience in working with children, that would certainly be a plus, however it is not our requirement. We would be very happy if the volunteers were open to all offered options, and if they were willing to use their imagination and put their own ideas to work so everyone could profit from them.

It is also important that the volunteers would be prepared to spend a long time in a foreign country, and to be willing to adapt to our local conditions - with our full support.

The volunteer´s motivation for working in our facility will be important aspect for us when we will search our volunteer.

age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: As a host organisation we'll offer volunteers our full support from their arrival, while working for our organisation and also during their free time.

For the first few weeks we'll have an action plan prepared with a basic weekly worksheet and suggestions, which would be consulted with the volunteer upon arrival. Some changes may be applied to satisfy everyone's needs. We will also arrange Czech language lessons, either at a language school or with a private teacher. Volunteer will also get a list of contacts and suggestions for where and how to spend his free time with detailed info about each suggested activity (art, sport, education). We will do the best to accommodate all our volunteer's individual interests and hobbies as well as their educational needs in the sense of teaching them about our culture and our language. Of course because of the nature of our work, they'll receive hands on experience while teaching and working with kids, where their own initiative is welcome and their own ideas will be appreciated, so we will learn as much from our volunteers as they will learn from us.

For the cooperation to be effective we'll write an agreement together where we'll clarify what our commitments as the hosting organization are (both at work, and after hours), there will also be a clear statement of the rights and obligations for our volunteers. However this agreement may be updated or changed (if both parties agree) as the situation changes during the course of the volunteers stay.

The duties of the volunteers will lie mainly with our organization STREP – with children and youth from 6 to 26 years old. It will include active assistance with setting up and organizing the activities, for example:
‣ Art – ceramics (we have a kiln), paper¬-machA©, collages, mosaics, painting, graffiti, stained glass, painting on silk...
‣ Sport – football, in-lines, skate, biking, climbing, dodge ball, street ball, floorball ...
‣ Others – work with pc and internet, billiards, table football, board games, needlework...

The volunteer as an assistant of our team would be able to learn a lot of new skills in a field of art (different art techniques, our culture and traditions) and in sports, they'll gain new work habits, and gain an experience while working with children on a day to day basis. We will support them in their independent projects in Strep.

The open hours of STREP are usually in the afternoon and evening hours during the work days, occasionally (about 4 times a year) we organize some outdoor activities – we spent several days in the countryside (hiking, visiting some places of interest).

There is going to be some basic paper work within the duties of our volunteers (eg. Keeping the records of participating children), also planning the activities, team meetings. The 80% of workload would be working with kids together with staff of STREP. Our main aim is to integrate the volunteer into our community and allow and support him/her to use his/her own ideas as we hope to learn as much from them as they'll learn from us. We expect them to be an active part of the team, voicing their own opinions and adding some fresh new ways in which we co do our work.

As another option or self-realisation we offer the possibility to participate during language lessons (English, German) for children 3 to 10 years of age at the free-time language centre Fabule. The children here are taught through games, art activities and simple craft work. This participation would be arranged only at the volunteer's request and it wouldn't be their main job. This could only add to maximum of 15% of the main amount of working time.

The presumed amount of working hours is 30 hours a week.

We'll arrange Czech language course and if needed, we'd be happy to provide conversation lessons as well.

During the whole time of the project, we'll be regularly organising meetings with our volunteers, their mentors, coordinator of hosting organisation, and STREP workers. These meetings are designed for evaluation of the activities of EDS, talk about performance and to debate, comment and if need be, help to resume any problems. We believe that this regular contact will ensure the most effective and pleasant process of this project for all interested parties.

For a volunteer there will be many opportunities to use their own initiative, their own ideas while working with children, they can broaden the horizons while teaching the clients about their own culture, of course they would be welcome to lead some activities in their own language to give our clients firsthand experience. Volunteer will be supported to organise his/her own events within STREP.
