Resumo: Outline the project environment for the suggested voluntary activities, including the local community where the project will take place (e.g. geographical, social and economical environment). If the host placement is located in a live-in community, please include the rules and conditions that apply also for the volunteer.

The town is more than 750 years old. Its name is derived from 'delven' which means delve or digging. The town's oldest canal is called The Old. The town expanded around it; later on many other city-canals were dug as life lines through the city. These grachten are still the pride of the town. In 1246 the town received city rights, granted by a Duke.

The town grew prosperous and new neighbourhoods were added to the city. In 1355 it reached the size it would remain at until the 1900s. In 1536 a great fire destroyed 2300 houses. The most likely cause was lightning striking the tower of The New Church.

About 100 years later, in 1654, an explosion destroyed large parts of town; a warehouse with 36 000 kg of gunpowder blew up. A new warehouse was later built, outside the city perimeter.

The town has long been a centre of art and science. With the foundation of the VOC in 1602, The town also became a trading centre. The VOC was at one time the largest trading company in the world, with a huge fleet and offices all over Asia. One of the Dutch offices was in the town. In 1842, the Royal Academy for Civil Engineering was founded. Now known as University of Technology, it is town's biggest employer. About 13.000 students study in the town.

The projects realized could be in the old town or the surrounding neighbourhoods or a location like the old cable factory just outside the centre. Because the foundation works in temporarily available spaces it is not yet to be clear. The volunteer will be housed in our guesthouse that he/she will share with guest artists. Off course the volunteer will have her own bedroom, but shared facilities like bathroom, kitchen etc.

Perfil: The volunteer should be motivated, open minded, has basic skills English and basic computer knowledge, used to takes initiative, is responsible and reliable and being able to work in a less structured organization. The volunteer should be interested in contemporary art and culture. (this can be also graffiti, film, poetry, photography, music etc.).

age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: The volunteer will be involved in the projects organized by the hosting organization and we will provide the opportunity to the volunteer to enlarge this with activities in the organizations involved with the hosting organization.

The organization will offer the volunteer the following support measures: weekly evaluation, language course, cultural course. Optional would be a basic video filming and editing course, basic photographic course and a basis course to maintain the website. The volunteer has the opportunity to learn more about organizing cultural activities and everything that is connected with this.
The volunteer will be participating in the project meetings and be involved in different activities. The volunteer will have own tasks and responsibilities in these activities, depending on the volunteers responsibility and experience. The volunteer will be stimulated to develop also own activities.
The volunteer will be involved in the organisation, preparation and realisation of our artist-in-residence program and connected project:
 will take part in the preparatory meetings and concept development;
 will be involved in contacts with local partners;
 will be involved in sponsorship and fundraising;
 will be involved in publicity and maintain the website;
 will be involved in welcoming new artists inthe town and showing them around;
 will be involved in organizing the final expositions/ presentation from the guest artists;
 will be responsible for some practical tasks in planning, organizing and executing;
The volunteer will have the opportunity to be involved with some partner organization from the organization. Some tasks mentioned above could be also available in these organization.
We would also like to mention that we are open for own initiatives from the volunteer and if possible will support this.
