Resumo: Our daily activities consist of physiotherapy, art & crafts projects, pottery and ceramic classes, photography, training courses, board games, daily reading of newspaper, which all need assistance by staff and volunteers. Pub nights, concerts, agricultural markets and sporting events are frequently supported by our residents, this gives the opportunity for the resident to be an active member of the community and also enhances the volunteers social skills and gives the volunteer the experience to be involved in local community life and learn about our culture.
It is important for the volunteer to bring their own interest to the project, earlier this year one of our volunteers joined our local athletic club, she organised a 6k charity run, walk and wheelchair push with the athletic club involving a large number of people in the community, raising funds of over €1000 to support a holiday for residents in the home. She also became an active member of the club supporting and encouraging younger members in athletic events around the country.
Volunteers will support residents/service users to achieve social intergration in the community by accompanying the person to various community events, or supporting them to join community groups, clubs and associations. A number of our residents participate in consumer disability meetings on a National basis,
The volunteer will support the person to learn new skills and bring their ideas to the person with a disability.
