Resumo: The volunteer will be placed at the organization office in city centre. Organization's office is in the city which hosts many organisations working with and for young people. The centre is also a meeting place where young people have free access to the internet can meet over coffee, read the papers and play a game of table football. The city centre has lot to offer to those interested in exploring it both culturally with its art institutions and socially with its many cafes and wide range of shops not to mention the views to the surrounding mountains.

This is a volunteering organisation that enables young people to partake in volunteer work with the assistance and help of the organisation. The organization works closely with other volunteer organisations world wide and also with the local community in Iceland by making volunteering in Iceland visible and part of everyday life. The host projects and their clients are vital part of the organisation and its ideals on giving everyone the opportunity to volunteer.

The working languages at the organization are Icelandic and English. Working time is from 10-16 from Monday to Friday with the possibility of flexibility when visiting host projects outside the city. If the volunteer is working more hours than stipulated he/she will be given time off to match the overtime.
The volunteer will either be placed at a host family or be placed in an independent living arrangement possibly together with other volunteers.

" what you can offer to volunteers in terms of Service and learning opportunities,

The volunteer will work hand in hand with the organization staff and board in a variety of activities related to the above mentioned tasks of the Office. This implies the following service and learning opportunities for the volunteer:

o The volunteer will be trained and will work on programmatic and administrative issues linked to organization's international voluntary service such as: public relations, quality assurance, assist on different projects, networking and partnership building, etc

o The volunteer's learning process in the above fields will be supported by on-the-job training whenever needed, structured and informal discussions as well as monthly planning and sum-up meetings.

o The volunteer will have access to and will work with publications and on-line information about different types of voluntary service programmes and implementation guidelines, which will enable him/her to gain knowledge about such programmes and the issues at stake when implementing and partaking in voluntary service programmes.

o The intercultural dimension will be present throughout the whole EVS experience, given that the volunteer will be closely involved with volunteers from all over the world as well as Icelandic citizens. S/he will be able to attend an Icelandic language course at a local learning institution.
The volunteer's learning and service experience will be documented and get recognised by making use of the Youth Pass tool and will be given a certificate at the end of his/hers service. The volunteer will be asked to learn how to use the Youth Pass tool in order to assist both volunteers and their mentor's to use it.

The concrete learning outcome for the volunteer will be:
- to get to know and understand the dynamics of different cultures, by discovering different life styles and opinions.
- To know her/himself better, as s/he will be confronted with new situations
- To negotiate in different contexts and with people from different cultures / backgrounds

" what will be the role of EVS volunteers in the Host Organisation,
The volunteer will be hosted at the office in the city and will support the organisation in carrying out day to day office work and asked to work on specific projects such as documenting volunteer experience, visit host projects to gather knowledge of them and possibly write about his/hers findings. The volunteer will work on projects aimed at raising awareness of cross border volunteering and the impact volunteering has on the local community and the volunteer him/herself. He/she will be working in a close collaboration with the staff and Board of Directories and also all those that the organization works closely with such as the volunteers themselves and the projects.

The volunteer will have to develop an understanding as how the financial crisis has affected the Icelandic community and volunteering activities in the process. The financial crisis has had the effect that more people may be willing to volunteer than before but don't have the means to do so and for that he EVS program is extremely important. Also both the financial crisis and the two volcanic eruption have had an effect on Iceland's reputation for good or for bad.

It is believed that the next few years will be very important for the organisation. The year 2011 is the year of volunteering and the organization wants to partake in many activities in conjunction with this and start projects that can add to the organisation's activities in the coming years. This could include working on improving procedures of communication with volunteers and host projects, how to involve volunteers to get more out of their experience. The volunteer for the office could therefore have impact on documenting these experiences and help in its publication or use for further development of organization's working procedures.
