Resumo: The organisation is located in a city that counts 15. 800 inhabitants or 25.000 if we consider the built-up area (agglomeration). The city is 60 kms far away from Caen (capital of the region) - and 240 kms far away from Paris.
It constitutes the third basin of population in Low-Normandy and attracts around 50.000 inhabitants (people from around coming to work, to do their leisure, shopping etc.)

The hedged farmland of the city is a land of breeding. Its economy is based on food and car industry. This industrial base is weak and there is a lake of service sector. Tourism suffers of a "too rural" and "not dynamic" image.
The region has difficulties to attract industrials, qualified workforce and tourists.
Territorial collectivity have done there best to maintain the presence of Faurécia on the territory: It is a leader of the automobile industry and employs around 15.000 people. This company has got a school of engineers and a centre of research.
This success enables to maintain the number of working people and to keep on developing the territory.

The rate of unemployment is still high (8.7%) but is lower than the regional average (9.1% in the first semester of 2010) The power of buying of the population stays quite low.

Geographical and economical context:
The population is aging and young people often go in other cities after high school because there are no universities in the city. The city has got a high population of immigrant coming from Maghreb, essentially Turkey.

Nevertheless, in our association we notice that youngsters who went to study in other cities or country, wants to come back in there hometown to testify of there experiences. Thus, we often help them in building projects and we host exhibitions of these youngsters in the organization.

In our area, the associative life is rich and diversified. Sports club are numerous, and a lots of people are involved in the civic life, young people participates to the life of associations that organises concerts. Local authorities give financial support to sports associations but it is more difficult for cultural and artistic organisations to get founds for there activities.

The territory hosts several HNC in high schools and there is also a nursing and an engineer's school.
The "Home for young workers " has been renovated and it is giving dynamism to social life in the city because youngsters from all over the world are coming there to live when they have training course etc.

For the EVS candidate it is important to know that there are not so many bars, disco, concerts hall in the city, but we are all here to propose activities to our volunteers and to help him / her to integrate in his/her new environment.

Perfil:
Age: 18 until 30 years old
Motivation is the most important element in our recruitment process.
Depending of the native language of the volunteer a small base of English can be asked to the applicant in order to ensure a minimum of communication and mutual understanding which are important in the beginning of the project.
We take care in giving equal opportunities to each candidate and we may privileged those who did not travel so much yet or haven't started higher education, who wants to learn French even if they didn't have the opportunity to learn it before coming to France.

The recruitment process ends with an agreement from all the persons who are involved in the project (the headmistress, the youth leader, the president of the association).
It is an open process: we pay attention to each application that has been sent, and motivation letters helps us to evaluate the interests of the volunteers for our project and to observe if they are in adequacy with our expectations and our framework.

What is expected by the volunteer: flexibility, enthusiasm, common sense, positive attitude, ability to work in team, abilities and great motivation to learn, to take part of many activities and to suggest new projects and actions.

Tarefas: Service and acquisition
The first two weeks the volunteer will be hosted in a French family . It enables him/her not to feel to alone in the beginning, to break the isolation and to facilitate the learning of the language and culture through a direct immersion. It will also enable the volunteer to adapt inch-by-inch to his/her new environment.

Then he/she is going to live in a functional flat of 70 m² (F3), that is located 15 to 20 minutes walking and 5 to 10 minutes by bus from the organisation and nearby the shops (bakery, greengrocer's etc.) . It is possible that this apartment be shared with another volunteer either a French volunteer or a European volunteer.
Depending on his/ her desires, the volunteer will have the possibility to participate to the activities that the centre offers (dance, music, drama, yoga, fitness training etc.) for free.

His/her life in a French family as well as the participation to the different activities of the organization, will enable the volunteer to develop his/her intercultural and social competences from the beginning of his/her EVS. And it is really important for us in terms of integration into the local community.

To facilitate the communication in French, the volunteer will benefit from weekly private lessons from the beginning of his/her service. Once the basis will be acquired/ gained, the volunteer will attend French course inside a centre of education where the learning process is autonomous. A teacher will be there to supervise the class.

The staff of the organization speaks or understands several languages (English, German, Italian, Spanich etc.), so it won't be problematic to communicate with the volunteer when he/she arrives. It is important that the volunteer, by the end of his/her project succeed in speaking French easier than at the beginning. The staff is willing to propose an intensive follow-up if necessary.
The staff will do his best to adapt to the needs and aspirations of the volunteer hosted. In terms of acquisitions, we will explain to the volunteer the way that an organisation such as the House of Youth and Culture- works as well as everything related to the work he/she will have to do or the one he/she could put in place.
The team will be in charge of the volunteer's training so that he/she will acquire more autonomy in his/her work and manage to take initiatives. Informations will be given step by step depending on the volunteer needs and desires.
The volunteer will benefit from the on-arrival and mid-term trainings organised by the French National Agency.

The objective of the organization is that the volunteer learns and acquires not only a new language but also a main experience. During his/her adventure he/she will improve abilities to move, to be independent, to be fully committed in collective actions and to work in a multicultural and interdisciplinary world. All this in order to improve his/her own personality and to build his/her professional project.

like the organisation of exhibitions, concerts, and theatre performances. The volunteer can be in charge of the creation of the posters or flyers, logistic and technical preparation, and will take part in the preparation projects.

At least the volunteer will have the possibility to set up a personal project. This project will depend on the volunteer wishes, motivation and interests. It could be an initiation course in his/her native language or an English course. But also courses or training related with the animation of a group if he/she has particular competences (video animation, traditional dance, culinary workshop etc.) , organisation of exhibitions etc.
To summarize, the principal tasks of the volunteer are based on communication, information, cultural and intercultural management. The volunteer will have the opportunity to improve his/her knowledge related with the Youth In Action Programme, but also related with cultural expression, project management and communication. A staff member will follow the volunteer in every step of his/her EVS. Regular evaluations will be done with the volunteer in order to evaluate its involvement in the life of the association and its integration in the French society. Those evaluations will enable us to give a coherent evolution to the project of the volunteer,
