Resumo: The foundation is a private not for profit entity established in 1986, declared by the regional government as of "interest for region". This institution is a as an open space to training, research and, in general, to a multi-dimensional and inter-disciplinary intervention in the field of Human and Social Sciences.
The foundation Works in cooperation and development projects in rural areas, giving priority to attention to women, in subjects like education, qualifications and training for employment, family planning and sexual education, strengthening of personal skills and resources and gender equality. We also work in projects for employment aimed at people in risk of social exclusion, disabled people, institutionalised minors, women and people with problems of substance abuse. The PIDEIA Foundation tries to work always in conjunction with public entities through different agreements (city councils, local and regional government) and with private entities.
Two of the permanent objectives of our institution are:
1. Promoting projects and actions aimed at facilitating working and social inclusion of vulnerable groups of people (people with disabilities, minors in institutions, women,...)
2. Actions aimed at local, economic, cultural and environmental development of areas with less access to resources.
There are two geographic areas for the organisation:
" The main headquarters are in the city, the capital which occupies a surface of 36,8 km² and has 246,056 habitants (2009), (420,000 metropolitan area). Urban area, the second largest one after Vigo; density: 6,600 inh./km2. Fishery is important, but the service sector is the most important one in the city.
" The Foundation has another regional office.
This a semi-urban town located in the south of the region at only 20 km from Santigo de Compostela, important for its University, over 500 years old, which give the city a nice atmosphere, with its 30,000 students. It comprises 48,4 km2 distributed into smaller population nuclei. The total population is of 9,500 inhabitants, with half of them living. Regarding their economy, this area sits on the fertile valley of Sar river, and was very linked to agriculture; nowadays, only one area (Herbón) keeps that activity.
Volunteers in the rural development projects will live in a house with garden near our premises. It has 4 bedrooms, 2 WCs, living-room, terrace and kitchen.
Volunteers participating in the main premises will be hosted in a flat (3 bedrooms, 2 WCs and kitchen) in Santa Cristina, 5 minutes away from the centre.
Both flats will be shared with other volunteers and supervised by the organisation regularly.

Tarefas: Opportunities we offer volunteers
The big number of activities offered by the Foundation, allows the volunteers to have different learning experiences depending on their preferences and interests. Volunteers will support the different projects and activities, and may participate in the design and implementation of the activities which most adapt to their interests, expectations and profile. There will be place for them to provide their ideas and suggestions, so they can actively participate and integrate in the team.
They will take an active part in our community, acquire formal and informal experiences; reinforce their sense of social comitment, acquire values such as solidarity, ability for team work, tolerance, European awareness, and improve social skills…
Role of volunteers in the host organisation
The foundation has two offices. The main head quarters in the city and the regional office. The main head quarters in the city, is where all the projects developed by the institution are designed and appraised. It consists of a Project Department, a Law Department, an Administrative Department and a Human Resources Department. The volunteers hosted in this office will support the Human Resources team, supporting the projects they carry out (EVS, integration projects, collaboration with civil society projects,...).
The office in Padorn, because of its geographic location is where the projects of rural development are carried out. In here the volunteer will take part in all the activities linked to social, economic and tourist development of these villages.
