Resumo: Daily we have about 9 hours with children ( it depends when they come and what time they leave the kindergarten), during which we have number of different activities - it is suited for age of children and particular groups. Some of activities are: dancing, gymnastic, religion lessons and swimming pool. There are created special activities for children with the same hobbies, for example: Young Travelers, Theatre Young European, Art. We also organise special physical excercises groups for children with physical problems. In the kindergarten we create our own newspaper, which is written partly by children, and it is made for parents, teachers and children in other kindergartens. We also published many articles about children education, growing up, kindergartens, disabled people and many others. We are also in contact with Pedagogical Academy. We have special meeting for the oldest children ( 6 years old) with social problems, and one group for those with difficulties in reading and writing "Look from other point of view". We provide more staff for those groups. The most important thing for us is to give children appropriate educational basics - in all issues like speaking, reading, behaving in a group, cooperating and so on. We want to give them as much knowledge and possibilities to do interesting things as possible. This period of life is important for building skills and hobbies, so we want to give children a possibility to try many things. Also we put big pressure for international issues. We have English lessons and French lessons. We would love to show children some "proves" of other cultures in the person of volunteers. As we want to develop the understanding of charity and altruism in our children we engage in charity actions. We think also the presence of the volunteer can help us with this task. We cooperate with libraries, Youth Centers, other kindergartens, Police, District Council, House For Homeless Animals, media (we have our own web-page) and many other social care organizations, like House of the single mother. This is a city in the southern Poland, with about 1 million inhabitabts. City is always full of students and young people, cause we have a number of big universities. The town is also called cultural capital of Poland, as there are plenty of cultural events, exhibitions, concerts, lot of monuments and sign of national heritage e.t.c.
We already have previous experience with EVS, so we learnt how to work and exchange ideas with volunteer better.
Perfil: - age: 18 until 30 years old
- open to working with children
- to have positive attitude
Tarefas: One of the main activities for our volunteers will be to promote his country and culture (both in the kindergarten and in our local society), and also to help teachers in a casual activities. We want to support the promotion of the country with special places in each classroom. Such places would be called "Corner of the country and each volunteer will be able to make some posters or other art works, to put there, to present their country. We would also like to organize meetings with volunteers and activities connected with their country. It would be great to make some competitions about knowledge about culture, language e.t.c. in the kindergarten and among other kindergartens. If the volunteer will be willing to, we can publish some materials prepared by him, about his country. Also we can make a special place in our newspaper for "International News". It would be nice if the volunteer will know some books for children or short poems, riddles or songs - then he can present those to children. Another important thing is that volunteer can take part in our diverse annual or occasional events. We are trying to have good contact both with parents and local community, so very often (usually once a month, depending on possibilities) we are organizing meetings, picnics, festivals, competitions, trips (e.g. to museums, parks e.t.c.).
Of course the volunteer is invited to take part in all of those activities. Second big part of work is supporting daily activities of the kindergarten. Before it, it’ll be necessary to know better the director, teachers, staff and whole organization - during the first period we will try to present as much as possible. Volunteers are expected to support teachers in their day to day activities - supporting children in eating, preparing them to go outside, to go to sleep, puttign this in order in the classrooms etc. Also we want them to help us to prepare materials for children for presentations, art activities, nespapers and theatres. We think that during this project volunteer will be able to gain a lot of knowledge about kindergartens in Poland, and also about Polish culture. We will try to help the volunteer to see our culture (also by organizing annually activities and celebrations like Easter, Christmas, Mother’s Day e.t.c.) and to participate in it as much as possible. Also by this work the volunteer will some how obliged to know more about children’s education, literature, especially poetry of J. Kern, who is a patron of our kindergarten, and we present a lot of his works to our children. We will do our best to help volunteers to find their place in our organization, to feel comfortable here and to work with us in an effective way. As we want parents of our children to be well informed we present information about volunteers on our web-page, on the meetings of staff and parents and in our news-paper.
