Resumo: The hosting organization is located in a medium sized town of about 45,000 residence in Estonia. The town is located in coastal, western Estonia. There is no main industry
in this town, other than tourism. The town's location and shallow waters of the inlet has made it a very
popular tourist destination since the turn of the 19th century.
Economically the town struggles to keep up with bigger cities in Estonia, and also with the industrial
north of the country. Many jobs in the town are based on a very short tourist season.
The hosting organization is located in very close proximity to a major bus stop in the city. It is
very accessible to anyone who wants to use it.
The part of town it is located in is a known also for being economically disadvantaged.
The volunteers would have a choice of being hosted or living on their own.
In a poor part of town, the youth center is located in close proximity of very poor blocks of flats. It is not a desirable part of town, it is far from the beach, and the children have less opportunities in this part of town.
Living arrangements vary a bit. We have an apartment available in close proximity to the center (10 minute walk). Volunteers will also have the opportunity to live with another EVS volunteer from another organization. One other opportunity is for volunteers to live with a host family that has connections to our School.
Perfil: - age: 18 until 30 years old
- very outgoing individual
- experience in working with youth
- flexible with time schedules
- Some public speaking will be necessary
- full of ideas and someone who likes having fun
- Organizational skills
Tarefas: Our volunteer will have opportunities to design and implement afterschool activities for students.
They will have opportunities to work on newly developed programs, and of course will have many
opportunities to attend service trainings in different parts of the country. They will also have the
opportunity to work with different organizations with in our community.
The main role for the volunteer will be to design and develop afterschool programs for our youth.
We are looking for someone to aid in the design of peer to peer tutoring, fun activities, competitions
etc. The volunteer will be working very closely with our youth worker employees.
Some possible activities that can be created, or art competions, sports, peer to peer tutoring (
getting high schoolers to help younger students in school subjects ), orgainizing concerts, starting a
drug abuse awareness program, etc, etc, the list goes on with many possibilities.
If we are able to get a second volunteer, then the volunteers could be used to enhance existing programs at the organization, the adjacent elementary school.
Programs at school include working with the young learners. Doing fun language activities, assisting in plays, also helping with music and having fun.
