Resumo: The hosting organization is located in a big city with about 95,000 inhabitants. It is situated in a beautiful valley. The city is surrounded by hills, which offer interesting opportunities for smaller trips or hiking. Like other similar sized cities, the city offers many things to do in your free time: music clubs, cinemas, theaters, bowling and minigolf clubs, a swimming pool, an ice skating stadium, cycle routes, etc. The city itself has a long industrial history and it is not considered to be architecturally beautiful. All parts of the city are very well opereted by the public city transport throught the day and to some extent at night as well. The city also has a University which has more than 12,000 students. This is a good resource for our volunteers to find other university-aged people and foreigners to connect with.
EVS volunteers live in the former Dominican monastery, where there are rooms for other people for rent. They live in a single room with Internet connection. The other rooms and facilities are shared. Volunteers use a shared bathroom, kitchen, fridge, and washing machine. There is also a monastery garden for use in the summer. Bed linen is provided by our organisation. Our organisation head office is located in the Dominican monastery as well and volunteers have a free access to the computer there.
The monastery itself is situated in the very convenient centre. Volunteers have extremely easy and convenient access to different shops, restaurants, the train station, main bus stops, and other services in the city.
Perfil: The motivation of a volunteer for our project is the key for the success of his or her project. The volunteer should ideally be a responsible person, who is able to fulfill agreed tasks and follow his or her schedule. The common language between the employees and volunteers is English and it is recommended that they be able to understand and speak a basic level of English.
Any previous experience with work with children and youth is welcomed, but is not a necessity. The project is very suitable for volunteers who are interested in work with children and youth in the areas of social work, free time activities and non-formal education.
We are open to cooperate with any type of Sending Organisation fullfilling the principles and rules of the Youth in Action programme.
Volunteers can contact us directly or with the help of their Sending Organisation throughout the year. We require a CV and motivation letter from the volunteer to consider his or her eligibility for our project. The motivation letter should describe the volunteer’s specific motivation for our project and selection of the activities that he or she would like to participate in. We guarantee a transparent selection process and willingness to answer any project-related questions from the candidates.
Tarefas: After arrival, each EVS volunteer has allotted time for acclimating into his or her new setting. During the first week he or she gets to know his or her mentor, other YMCA staff and volunteers, and YMCA activities and facilities in the city. The volunteer will go through our health, safety and youth work trainings before starting work and his or her schedule and language course will be discussed as well. YMCA has a project manager who is responsible for each EVS project and will be available for volunteer during the whole project. The volunteer has a regular team and individual meetings with the leader which are focused on the volunteer″s managing tasks, his or her additional needs or requests, evaluation of recent activities, plans for the upcoming weeks and other important issues as needed. During the project we offer extra trainings to the volunteers in these areas: indoor climbing training with or without certification, social services in the Czech Republic (principles of social services, laws, quality standards, etc.), MS Office user`s skills and project management in the frame of the Youth in Action programme.
Our volunteers can participate in the following projects and activities:
