Resumo: Our city is in the east of The Netherlands, close to the German border. It has all kinds of cultural, sports and leisure facilities. So no matter what you like to do, you’re sure to find it here. It is situated at the edge of a forest in a river landscape with lots of walking and cycling tracks. There are good public transport connections. There are several train stations, with regular services to Schiphol airport, Utrecht, Frankfurt (Germany) and other Dutch cities.

Each of the volunteers will be working in one of the houses. There are approx. 12 clients in each house, divided over two so-called ‘living groups’. It can be quite confronting to work with the our clients, because many of them function on a low level. They are like babies or toddlers in an adult body. Often they can’t talk, make strange noises and drewl. Some of them are in a wheelchair, others are blind or deaf. The volunteer will need a lot of patience to get to know each of the clients and to communicate with them. But once the volunteer has gained some experience, the work is very rewarding.

Perfil: - be between 18 and 30 years old
- have a strong motivation to do voluntary work
- be willing to live in a different country and to learn Dutch
- be part of a team/community and work together
- interested in working with mental handicapped people
- social skills (team worker, caring, patient)
- creative skills (developing and running activities)

Tarefas: • giving extra attention to the clients (reading a story, playing with them, listening to music, snoezelen - lying on a warm water bed with coloured lights and music)
• accompanying clients with day & leisure activities (painting, visiting the children’s farm, going swimming)
• supporting the clients in and around their house (brushing teeth, getting (un)dressed, preparing meals, helping the clients to eat, bringing the clients to their work place or day activity centre, taking them to bed)
• small household chores (tidying, doing the washing up, preparing food)
• prepare & attend meetings with their supervisor, as well as team meetings
‘s Koonings Jaght welcomes the initiatives of the volunteers. For example. one of the formers volunteers at ‘s Koonings Jaght made a ‘experience track’ in the garden, which stimulates the different senses of the clients. So they can touch, hear and see different things.

Condições: Accommodation:
The volunteers will live together in a bungalow. Most of the volunteers each have their own room, with a bed, desk and wardrobe. The bathroom, toilet, kitchen and living room are shared spaces. The volunteers are responsible for keeping the bungalow clean & tidy.
