Resumo: Work with intellectually disabled adult people

Our Foundation runs the Accommodation- Rehabilitation House for intellectually disabled people. The House is located in the outskirts of Warsaw with easy connection to the centre of the city (there is a need to change buses, the whole journey lasts 40 - 45 minutes).

The majority of 30 residents of the House are physically active people with moderate intellectual disabilities. The House provides 24-hour care and various occupational therapies for them such as:
- Education classes (activities based on reading, writing, counting)
- Art classes (glass painting)
- Pottery classes
- Music classes
- Cooking classes (basis of cooking, baking)
- Sport classes
- Theatre classes
- Photography classes

Beside activities in the House, the residents get the opportunities of supported employment according to their health condition as well as participation in event such as concerts, picnics, visits to cinemas and museum. Every year a rehabilitation summer camp is organised.

Perfil: - age: 18 until 30 years old
- ready to work with intellectually disabled adults and to take the initiative
- experience in working or previous contact with intellectually disabled people

Tarefas: The volunteers will be helping care assistants and therapists in everyday work with the residents of the Foundation. Their activities include:
- helping the people with everyday activities (getting dressed, washing oneself, preparing
food)
- helping the therapists with running occupational therapies (education classes, art classes,
sport classes, theatre classes, music classes, cooking classes, weaving and pottery classes)
- helping with controlling safety during trips, cultural events, social meetings and other
outdoor activities
- participating in everyday activities of the House such as helping to keep cleanliness and
order in residents' rooms and common spaces of the House as well as in the surrounding
area, gardening and simple manual work (painting, removing branches).
Remarks: the work is quite monotonous, the residents are very friendly but reluctant. The
volunteer needs to be active and have a sense of initiative, moreover basic artistic skills will
be helpful.

Condições: Volunteers will live in a shared room in a part if the House for the staff with access to sanitary rooms. Volunteers will have a microwave and kettle for everyday use. Meals will be provided.

Volunteers must keep silence at night and are not allowed to drink alcohol nor smoke in the House.
