Resumo: The youth and culture centre in the city district of Itzling has been founded in 1998 with the support of the city. Located in one of the biggest city in Austria (150.000 inhabitants). The beautiful old part of the city is overlooked by an impressive fortress on a hill. The region around the town is very scenic with lakes and mountains allowing a lot of leisure-time activities. The city is renowned for its musical festivals (summer and Easter). There is also a university at which 20.000 students are enrolled.

That's the one side of the city, but there is another side as well. Beside the beautifulness and superficial, tourism based areas, domiciled inhabitants with social needs in underdeveloped city districts and many immigrants.

The team working at the youth centre consists out of the leader of the youth centre, two youth workers, an EVS volunteer and about 10 free-lance workers for special workshops/projects/lessons..

The only rules applying to the running of the youth centre are: no violence, no alcohol no drugs and normally we do not involve young people under 13 or over 19, because there are other organisations for this target group.

Opening times;
Internetcafe: Tuesday-Saturday 4-8 p.m.
Bar and Disco: Thursday-Saturday 4-10 p.m. (2 times in month until 1 a.m.)
Teenager afternoon: Tuesday-Wednesday 4-7 p.m.
After-school care club: Monday-Friday 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Host Placement:
The EVS volunteers who are involved to the various local host organisations are accommodated in a local student's residence in the city. The student's residence offers single and double rooms, fully equipped, shared bathroom and kitchen. EVS volunteers will obtain a box with cooking utensils and bed sheets at their arrival.

Perfil: Age: 18 until 30 years old

Basic knowledge of German or English and of computing would be useful. Flexibility and motivation to work with young people would be great.

Our coordinating organization is in a network of sending and hosting organizations for EVS in Europe and tries to involve volunteers from those organizations. Since the partners know each other well, they can help select the volunteers and suggest them to us - so that each volunteer may find the best suitable project - also our project.

Tarefas: The volunteer is a support for our team. More about the general programme of the youth centre you can find under the description of the youth centre and its activities itself.
General activities are: Internetcafé; open running of the youth centre: music, games, billard, table-tennis, discussions, chats, DJ parties, band performances, specific projects, workshops, youth exchanges, theatre, own radio emission ...

An approximate timetable for the volunteer could be like this - 30 hours/week;
10 % project related work (radio programme, youth-magazine, workshops..)
60 % activities with the young people
20 % administration (preparation of events, parties…)
10% meetings and team-sessions

Time Table for Volunteer about 30 hours/week:

Wednesday 12 a.m.-3 p.m. Teammeeting
Tuesday-Wednesday 4-7 p.m.: Teenager afternoon:
Thursday-Saturday 4-10 p.m. (2 times in month until 1 a.m.): Bar and Disco:
Language course: 3 hours a week
Maybe temporary support at After-school care club!

We welcome the volunteer bringing in his/her own ideas for projects or activities which can be developed during the general youth centre times.
For example: one of our former volunteers organized a photo-exhibition; she took pictures together with our young public, developed the pictures and made a selection of the best ones.
