Resumo: The hosting organization carries its activities (an autonomous-territorial unit within the structure of Moldova, with a special legal status). The population is about 155.6 thousand people (4.6 of the country's population resides in the territory of ATU Gagauzia). The people account for 82.1 of the total number of residents.
Moldovans, Russians, Ukrainians, Bulgarians and Roma are represented by small local communities in various villages. The majority of the population (about 68) lives in the countryside. Moreover, Russian and Moldovan (Romanian) are the official languages in Gagauzia along with Gagauzian. The majority of the population prefers to speak Russian language. Gagauzia is situated in the southern part of the country. The territory of consists of a developed network of roads. The favourable geographical position is provided by the proximity to the seaports of Odessa, Ilychovsk (Ukraine), and river ports on the Danube in the town of Gurgulesti and to the Chisinau airport.
The distance between administrative centre Comrat and only international passenger airport in Moldova (in Chisinau) is 100 km. Another airport is available in Odessa (Ukraine). The air tickets from European counties both to Moldova and Ukraine are very expensive; so many citizens of EU countries prefer to fly by law cost airlines not directly to Chisinau airport, but to Bucharest (capital of Romania). The journey from Bucharest to Comrat or Chisinau takes approximately 6-7 hours by bus or train. The economy of the ATU Gagauzia is based on agriculture and wine-making. The income level and standard of living amongst the Gagauzian population is similar to the situation in the southern part of Moldova. In some regards, (the health level, educational system, guarantees for small business and international investors) Gagauzia has more advantages. The main internal problem of the region is labour migration. About 10% Gagauzian people work abroad, predominantly in Turkey, Russia and Greece.
Perfil: We are interested in volunteers who have a basic competence in English (or other relevant international languages such as Russian or German), self-starters and those that possess initiative, are open-minded and prepared for challenges. In order to have a positive experience, it is very important for the volunteer to bring a lot of initiative and motivation to her or his participation in activities with kids. She should be open minded about different areas of work. The selection procedure will be a part of work of Miras-Moldova with our involvement.
The age limit for volunteers is not so important, It's most important that the volunteer had a desire to work with kids. The volunteers are informed via internet and direct discussions about all the conditions of their stay in Moldova. The candidates are selected by means of an open call for volunteers where everyone can participate regardless of their political, religious views and regardless of their gender; however we try to make a balanced gender group of volunteers. By thorough study of the motivation letters and CVs of the volunteers and as well as by conducting direct interviews via Skype or phone by a responsible person in Miras-Moldova(our contact point in EVS) we attempt to find the most appropriate candidates for the projects. It will not be possible in general to generate a job substitution situation as the volunteers will be doing activities not related in general to the administrative or any other field which is supporting the development and maintenance of any organisation.
