Youth club Orion is a drop-in centre for children and youth which are or may be threatened by social exclusion. The club is a safe place with a no-smoking and drug-free policy and is open four days a week in the afternoon. Entry is allowed to kids and youth aged 12-18 without any race, gender, religious or social discrimination. Entry is also free, without any conditions of membership, fees or compulsory participation in any activity. Young visitors can just sit down and talk with friends and workers of the club or use some equipment of the club. Our equipment options consist of table soccer, table tennis, computers with Internet, desktop games, and juggling equipment. There are usually one or two special activities during each month (tournaments, film showing, discussion, etc). The volunteer will work in cooperation with social workers and other volunteers in the club. It is necessary to accept the fact that work it the club can be partly demotivating in the longer period. 1) It is hard to motivate kids for any new activity
2) There is a language barrier between kids and volunteer
3) The volunteer spends most of the time by playing games with kids Volunteer’s work in the club: - to participate in free time activities with youth in the club, which is the main activity of volunteers in the club - to help the staff with day-to-day operation of the club and special activities within the club - the volunteer can prepare and lead his or her own activity according to his or her skills and interests on a weekly or every-other weekly basis (dance, music, sports, English language).
