Perfil: VOLUNTEERS: must be between the age of 18 and 30.
The volunteers are not required any particular degree of formal education. This project aimes at providing a non-formal learning experience for them. It is favourable they have motivation in the social field: social work, special education, psychology, etc. The volunteers have to be interested to work with people with special needs (intellectual disability) and motivated to do so. Training in the field of social and health sciences will be an asset.
However, they should have social abilities, in terms of good communication skills, patience and tolerance to work with persons with intellectual disability. We would like to host volunteers with positive atitude, tolerant, flexible and eager to learn of new cultures and lifestyles. It is desirable, however that they have some knowledge of English or Spanish.
ORGANIZATION: related with persons with special needs. It would be ideal to receive volunteers from entities working with people with special needs (intellecyual disability), but it is not obligatory.
PROCESS:
The EVS vacancies will be announced not only in the EVS database, but also in the frequently visited on-line groups (on Facebook, Yahoo! Groups etc.), and we will make a Call to all the partners on our contact list.
All applicants will be asked to submit a CV and a cover letter, based on which we will try to choose the ones that are most motivated to join us in our activities. Once all the information has been gathered a selecting commission with staff from the association will be created, and selection will be made consulting with the sending organisations. Everyone involved in the process of selection will be informed of our decision.
Tarefas: The host organization wants to offer the EVS volunteer the possibility of developing their human potential as well as getting to know and accept other realities. The experience of living independently in a foreign environment is also an essential part of the personal and social development of young volunteers.
The objectives, values and philosophy of the hosting
organisation can also provide a new way of understanding and carrying out social work for the volunteer. The volunteer will join a team where he/she will have learning models or professionals with experience in work with disabled people. The volunteer will have the opportunity of learning about the different techniques and therapies currently used to work with this group pf people. The volunteer will be involved in the rehabilitation processes of these people, and if he/she will have the opportunity of understanding and joining the fight against the stigma and social exclusion of people with disabilities.
It is also a way of promoting social integration of young people looking for participating mechanisms in the decision making processes that affect underprivileged people for geographic, economic or other reasons.
The volunteers will be in charge of supporting the professionals in the daily activities of each centre, taking part in the planning, execution and evaluation of the activities. As the volunteers get more familiar with the language and the workings of the organisation his/her independence will increase and they will be able to choose the activities they want to get involve with and contribute their own ideas. All the activities in which the volunteer gets involved with will be supervised by a professional form the organisation.
The volunteer will have 30-35 weekly hours of activity, where we include the time dedicated for language training. There are two free days a week which will be Saturday and Sunday.
The volunteers will have periodical meetings with the mentors to have a continuous assessment of the EVS and with the staff in the organization for coordination of the project.
Although all the activity orbits around a common subject, the specific activities and profile of the volunteer will be different depending on the placement. In general terms:
DAILY CENTRE:
The host organization, as one of its most successful projects, points out the social service DAILY CENTRE opened in 2005. The Daily Centre is attended by persons with light, mid-severe and severe intellectual disability. With them works professional team on acquisition and development of social, cognitive and practical skills essential for improving their quality of life and their higher inclusion and integration in the society.
ACTIVITIES:

· Creative workshop
· Leisure activities (walks, excursions, cultural visits, events, etc.)

GROUPS:
· Child's group (age: 3 - 10 years)
· School group (age: 10 - 18 years)
· Adult group (age: over 18 year)
WORKING HOURS (Monday to Friday):
· All-day program (from 7:30 to 15:30)
· Half-day program (from 11:30 to 15:30)

LEISURE CENTRE:
This is a new project which will start in the beginning of 2010.
It attends users between 6 and 50 years old, offering programmed leisure activities. An entertainer works as the coordinator of the centre together with an education technician, instructors and free time activity experts. The activities are divided according to the age of the users.
The estimated results of the Leisure centre are:
· Improve the skills and abilities of the persons with ID
· Obtain and develop new skills and abilities of the persons with ID
· Raise the awareness of the parents and the families for the abilities of their children with disability
· Establish a leisure activities for the persons with ID who weren't included till now from various reasons
· More family respite and free time, and a possibility for employment for the family members
· First centre for leisure time activities for persons with ID in the town

The Inclusive leisure time program predicts activities in respect of the needs for rest and recreation of the persons with intellectual disability, by promoting their personal development and social integration and inclusion in leisure community, and preventing the social exclusion.
This program is aimed for children, youth and adults with intellectual disability.
Every Friday would be reserved for leisure time activities, prepared and organized in consideration of the needs, tastes and interests of persons with intellectual disability.
