Resumo: The project will be run in summer centers.
Here live 750 thousand inhabitants. A big part of the region are mountains and this is the most tourist attractive place, not far from the town. This place is one of the quickest developing cities in Poland. The reason is the geographical location - near the German and Czech borders. It draws many western investors.
The Lower Silesia region in the history was Polish, Czech, Austro-Hungarian and German and therefore its cultural and historic heritage is multicultural and very impressive. The town itself is a beautiful city with many historic sites and very friendly atmosphere. We have 14 Universities and Academies and very well developed cultural live. The city is located on the Odra river and is called Polish Venice.
We run our holiday camps mainly in two centres. However, every year we try to find some new and interesting places. The living conditionas are always very similar.
One is located in the middle of the forest on the bank of pure and beautiful lake. The camp consists of solid kitchen and bathrooms, while all sleeping places are in tents (formally used as 10-s in army, but here maximum 6 and less of volunteers and staff are located).
The other is located in a secluded spot on the Odra river in downtown . It’s quiet and peaceful surrounding, with fast access to the center (15 min.) at the same time. The camp is very well equipped, consists of solid kitchen and bathrooms, while all sleeping places.
The main staff stays permanent for summer time, while participants come every 2-3 weeks.
The special rules include non-smoking and non-alcohol during and before activities with children and youth, being basic personal culture and respecting the others.
Perfil: We are planning to promote our project in different way, through different social media, as a various portals, internationals networks and databases focusing on international youth projects, that information about the project has reached as many as possible.
Recruitment process is open. The goal of this project is to enable less privileged young people to voluntary service and to help them in finding their way in life. That is why we are open to host volunteers who have no qualifications but strong motivation and willingness to see and do something new. It is important for the hosting organization that the volunteers that we select, meet a certain standard to ensure a full and healthy project. The volunteer should be interested in animating the free time of young people, as well as be able to work in a team, be flexible and creative. Our main criteria is to look for volunteers who have open and caring nature towards children, they should have patience, strong attitude with a friendly approach. However it is important to remember that the volunteer, even though he/she will be expected to be friend for the children/youth, may have to show their authority as leaders, which is not always popular with young people. It is recommended to all candidates that previous work with children may be important, but qualifications are not vital. We appreciate national and international cultural interests like dances, music and history. Also basic computer and Internet skills will be helpful but we are also eager to teach of what will be useful.
We request our volunteers to be non-smokers, because we try to teach our children, that it is possible to live without any addiction. Alcohol is also forbidden.
Tarefas: In our organization we are giving an unique opportunity of learning by doing. Typical scouting methods together with the real touch of the Polish culture will be the most essential part of the personal outcome for volunteers. Notwithstanding, the joy of working with children and youth is additional value which would be obtained by them. In details volunteers will learn how to work with outdoor methods, how to work with children and youth and how to work in a group and with group. They will develop complex social skills as well as less common but very interesting ones as outdoors techniques (setting fire, wood working, orienteering etc.). Personal development will cover such areas as living in different culture environment, trying themselves in difficult situations and opening for new ideas and ways of living.
We put a lot of attention for planning process. All necessary information about service volunteer will receive before arriving to the project. Volunteers will have enough time to rethink their project and get used to volunteer’s subject-matter. Little by little they will be introduced to the project, and responsibilities will be entrusted to them depending on the level of their involvement into volunteer’s service. Regular timetable gives safe frames, essential harmony and stabilization in the project, it makes efficient monitor of volunteer’s service easer for coordinators of volunteer’s service. Thanks to weekly evaluation, coordinator
will be able to deal with likely problems and plan further actions. Volunteers will be asked to introduced their own ideas and social action initiatives. Ideas going to be put into practice after careful analyze.
The key aspect of the project is also volunteer’s learning process. Each person coming for EVS is individual, has distinct needs, personality, different skills and gifts. Learning process depends on each person. Beginning from communication in foreign language, managing own budget, preparing meals, live in international environmental, going to planning and putting
into practice ideas about leading own workshops with kids and finally self-reflection and evaluation of the project. Each person will learn in their own time. Volunteers will learn in three ways:
- Learning-by-doing and on their own mistakes,
- Learning based on clues given by experienced coordinators, couches and youth
workers,
- Learning one from another
We see help of EVS volunteers in two kind of projects, means short-term and long-term.
In short-term project (special during the scout camps) they will develop closer relation with nature and better understanding of it. Typical activities will consist for example of: putting up tents, preparing orienteering games, walks with children in forest, archery, fire works, preparing craft workshops, building shelters in forest with youth, observing animals with group, sailing, first aid workshops. All of that under supervision of experienced instructors. Before coming to the camp, every volunteer will go through a one week training to obtain basic skills needed during the camp. If it will be necessary, the training can be prolonged.
