Resumo: Our aim is to develop leisure activities that allow our residents to have a good time. We want to stimulate their memories, and we organize in correlation with these activities painting, sculpture, photos, or film workshops.

We want the residents to continue making plans for the future even if they are over 80 years old. To speak about tomorrow with elder people is certainly important.

It is good to put a smile on the wrinkled lips of our elders, for whom life no longer reserves any truly positive perspectives. The choice of activities is made by taking into account the aptitudes and availability of the staff members and the desires of the residents.

Depending on the imagination, interests and experience of the volunteer, an activity might very well be an individual or group reading or projects of theatrical sketches or scenes, or even improvisation with the residents. These are only examples. Other activities could include planting a miniature garden or a perfumed garden.

Numerous activities are already included in the Home’s programme: special events for the grape-harvest, for Christmas, and for Easter, a sauerkraut festival, two annual outings to restaurants, a picnic during the city’s annual Music Festival in June, shopping trips to the market in Palente, painting, sculpture, baking of fruit pies, a memory workshop, a choral group, card games, lotteries, etc…

The volunteer will play the roles of visitor, organiser, provider of distractions and leisure activities, and even the confidant friend, who has listening skills, discretion and willingness to share. He will accompany the residents on outings (for example shopping, going to the market in Palente, to restaurants, to the Music Festival…), creating social connections with the local community, which will also benefit to the residents.

The Home is located in the Franche-Comté district, a lovely region with a rich history and beautiful landscapes, from the Jura mountains (on the Swiss border) with their winter sports resorts to the plains of the Upper Saone river, rich in agricultural diversity (including wine-making and forestry) and animal breed ( “Franc-comtois” horses, and “Montbéliard” cows). Besançon has a population of 120,000 people.

Perfil: - with relational and listening skills

Tarefas: The volunteer will have the chance to discover the conditions of the old age, which is often connected to the thematic of dependency.

- At the arrival of the volunteer, several leisure activities will be proposed to him in dialogue with the animator and the Direction (games, lotto, memory workshop, pottery workshop…).

- The volunteer, as soon as he feels well in his role of animator, will have to develop his personal project during his service.

A typical daily schedule would be as follows :
• accompany individuals or groups on walks to the local market with the help of the physical therapist
• accompany residents to the dining halls
• participation in group activities such as pottery, painting, baking, lottery, physical therapy, memory workshop, outings…
• when the weather is beautiful, walks will be organized in the park and the tea time will take place under the sunshade

- The volunteer will participate as often as necessary to the staff meetings and will be integrated in the team. The team will do his best to help him accomplish his mission and support him in every way.

Horário: The volunteer have an average of 33 hours of service per week from Monday to Friday and will have two days off per month of service.

Condições: The volunteer will be provided with an equiped room (bathroom and kitchen installations, internet access), which is completely independant and supplies a direct access to the site and to the park, without going through the Home itself.

For the meals, the volunteer will be provided by the dishes prepared by the kitchen of the building.
