Resumo: We are a meeting point for people (men and women, homosexuals, bisexuals and heterosexuals) interested in working for a better society, promoting acceptance and respect and recognising diversity (sexual, ethnic, religious, cultural, etc) through: visibility, participation, inclusive work, human rights globalisation, environmental awareness, etc.
Within our work, there is an important place for the project ...Y en tu pueblo también. Diversity in the rural environment. With it, we want to raise awareness about diversity, homophobia and racism in the towns in the province, places where organisations and public campaigns don't reach.
The hosting organization wants to provide tools for people in towns to enable them to manage diversity (not only sexual, ethnic and cultural, but also disabilities and religious beliefs), and in this way enrich their lives. In all the actions we will stress the gender perspective, which is a central factor of many attitudes of intolerance to diversity.
1- Non formal intercultural education.
2- Raising awareness to destroy clichés about homo-, bi- and transsexual orientations, in order to improve:
- Self-esteem in LGBT people
- Acceptance of LGBT people
3- Training of young LGBT and/or immigrant people so they can become integrated in the social movements of their area and become vehicles for including diversity issues in council policies.
LOCAL COMMUNITY:
We have our headquarters in a town with 185,000 inhabitants.
This project targets 97 towns with less than 20,000 inhabitants.
Economy: based on olive groves. There are some exceptions, like Martos (with the multinational Valeo), Mancha Real,...
Perfil: - Concerned with fight against discrimination, willing to actively participate in the project and in the work.
- Interest and awareness concerning discrimination and work with the target group of the project.
Recruitment
Through the ECs web site.
In the first phase of the selection we will reject all those applicants who do not show an explicit interest in the project or in fighting against discrimination and just seem to look for a opportunity to improve their already good level of Spanish in Spain.
We will make sure that volunteers have the needed team working skills, as well as social and communication skills.
Tarefas: Intercultural learning is the base of this project: experience other realities, take the place of other people, question the own reality, have a global point of view, with less stereotypes and more reflective.
Volunteers may share experiences with volunteers from different countries and users.
All activities aim respect of other people, fighting racism, xenophobia and sexism.
Our work is based on visibility and co-existence, on sharing spaces and experiences with people with different characteristics (race, sexual orientation, physical functions, believes,...).
This work is achieved in different activities:
- distribution of material (posters, brochures, magazine,…)
- coordination meetings with youth councils, volunteering platforms, women's networks, district meetings,…
- assistance to conferences, workshops and training courses (non-formal education for volunteer)
- take part in EVS trainings and assessments
- giving workshops about affective-sexual diversity and intercultural diversity, in order to raise awareness towards these realities and acquire specific skills to promote respect of local and personal diversity
These tasks are done by a team of volunteers supported by the EVS volunteers. First they will learn and then they may act autonomously.
Before any activity, volunteers shall discover the new environment: city, province, volunteers,... They will participate in a seminar about integration. Then they will receive the needed training for their tasks.
Once they feel prepared, they can carry out awareness activities and attend users. During the whole process, the mentor and the rest of the people working in the project will support them.
The person in charge of the project will attend any need or question of the volunteer and there will be weekly meetings to evaluate the prior week and to plan the following week, as well as to make clear any aspect which needs so.
The association organises workshops regularly. The volunteer will participate in them to acquire abilities and skills which may be useful in later work. We will also enable their participation in other activities and projects organised by the Confederation, like the National Conferences organised every 3 months.
Horário: Participation: 7 h/day, 5 days/week; 2 consecutive free days/week. Holidays: 2 days/month of service.
