Resumo: Our organization is an international organisation, located in the European heart of Belgium. As a consequence, all voluntary activities will take place within a range of 1 kilometer from the European institutions.
On the level of cultural and sports-activities as well as on the level of restaurants and pubs, Belgium offers a lot of different possibilities to spend an interesting and pleasant time.
The housing of the volunteer will be arranged in close collaboration with the volunteer. Together with him/her, we will search for a room or a studio in one of the (international) students areas of Brussels.
Perfil: o Volunteers with interest in the social sector, and more specifically in the disability sector;
o Volunteers with interest in European matters and policy, who are prepared to work in an open, European atmosphere;
o Volunteers with a good level of English (both written and spoken), as English is the working language within the organisation;
o Volunteers who are communicative, well organised and able to work independently as well as in group.
o Volunteers who are motivated and willing to learn.
Tarefas: Examples of specific tasks could be:
o Preparation (preparing agenda and documents, contact members, etc.), participation and follow-up of the EASPD meetings (writing minutes, sending our reminders to people, etc.).
o Follow-up contacts with the international members and its executive committee. In between the meetings, regular contacts are needed in order to make a good cooperation possible. These contacts mostly happen by telephone and email.
o Desktop research on disability related issues, mostly concerning employment and/or education. In the framework of the Standing Committees engages itself to follow-up closely the employment- and education-related issues on the European level. The volunteer will surf the website, do research and attend external conferences and meetings to keep up with what happens in the field of employment and/or education of people with disabilities.
o Organising an international conference (accommodation, venue, mailings to participants, ...). We organise several international conferences a year. Supporting the practical organisation of such a conference could be part of the job of the volunteer.
o Translation of documents to his/her mother tongue.
o Participation in the development/working out/follow up of innovative projects. These projects are mainly situated in the field of education, employment, equal opportunities, deinstitutionalisation, etc.
o Prepare PowerPoint presentations for the Secretary-General and the executive committee.
o Help to upload useful material on the EASPD website.
Apart from that, we also want to offer the volunteer the possibility to visit some services for persons with disabilities, in order to discover the disability field in Belgium and Brussels.
Expected iearninq outcomes
The expected learning outcomes for the volunteer will be:
o Knowledge on how the social and educational sector (in Belgium and across Europe) is organised and on the recent developments in Europe on Disability and Human Rights related issues.
o Knowledge on the European Union and the European Institutions in general.
o The volunteer will be encouraged to develop a sense of initiative and independency in the tasks she will be doing.
o Knowledge of written and spoken language: the volunteer will learn how to communicate, negotiate and socialise in a foreign language.
o Knowledge on how to plan, prepare and carry out a project.
o Knowledge on how to participate in a team.
Condições: The regular job time in our organisation is 38 hours/week. This is also what we expect from our volunteer.
This job time includes all activities organised by EVS, as well as the hours spent in a language course (French or Dutch, depending on the preferences of the volunteer).
