Resumo: The volunteer works at a school which is an elementary school for children and youth with different kinds of special needs (physical and mental disabilities).
The students are aged between 6 and 18. Volunteer will assist the school staff in organizing the daily activities.
Perfil: - interested in disabled care
- willing to learn about Finnish culture and the basics of the language as well as to be willing to share about his/her own culture and national traditions in the school
- independent,
- well-organised.
Tarefas: - socializing with the children at the school,
- willing to introduce his/her own culture at different lessons and occasions in order to offer the children with glimpses of the wider world
- personal skills (artistic, musical, etc.) and in this way to bring new and fresh ideas to school life
- help in organising special events such as a Christmas party, visits to a museum, an art exhibition, etc.
- Helping the staff in providing the basic care is another central aspect of the job. Many children need a lot of physical and practical help in moving around, eating and other daily functions.
- Helping the staff at the school dormitory in basic care of students is another aspect of such practical helping.
Horário: A typical day varies according to the school schedule and planned activities. It could be, for example:
8:00 -10:00 - Helping in the English language lessons in the computer class
10:00-11:45 - Participating and helping in the sport classes with floorball, swimming gym, etc.
11:45-12:15 - Lunch
12:15-13:00 - Helping in the math class
13:00-14:00 - Helping in the art class with painting, drawing, clay works, computer animations, etc.
The volunteer will have the same working hours as is set in the weekly schedule for the students. The schedule will also provide a framework for the duties, which the volunteer is expected to do each day. S/he will work 30 hours a week: 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. The work days begin either at 8 or 9 o'clock depending on the schedule. Work is usually on weekdays only. Lastly, the volunteer has normal Finnish holidays, two days each month, like all the other employees.
Condições: The volunteer will be living in a Finnish host family. In this way she/he will have a unique opportunity to get an insight to Finnish culture, language and habits.
The volunteer will be a family member with same rights and responsibilities that another family members.
