Resumo: A day centre for youngsters between 12 and 18 years old with difficulties at school. The volunteer will support the centre in daily tasks and organise activities during the day.

Our organization is helping girls between 14 and 21 years old, girls with a difficult social background caused by different reasons. Often there is a multiply effect that makes that these girls already attended different centres of youth care in several years. Because of different problems, bad experiences in their life they lost confidence in the society and adults.

We want to create a setting for these girls that give them the possibilities to open themselves and change this distrust into trust. From the beginning, when a girls arrives in De wissel, the context (family, friends, school, …) will be involved in the process.

Main activities:

1. Group moments: opening the day to explain the activities and divide the tasks, closing the day by sharing thoughts, ideas,...
2. Atelier moments: several actions happening by 1 or more persons ( music, handcraft, sports, games, knitting, baking, …)
3. taking care of daily life: shopping, making lunch, cleaning, talks with the people, administration

Perfil: . mature enough to deal with the youngsters, get along with non-motivated youngsters with behaviour problems.
. Being able to organise some work by yourself,
. taking initiative for own projects and activities to develop.
. Open minded and willing to discuss and think together with the team about your dealing with the youngsters and task, about the methods,...
. able to live in rural setting (not in a city, nearest city Leuven is 12km)
. independent in living, cooking, taking care of yourself
. live in community with others (2persons at least), share places in common with others except your sleeping room ;)
. willing to learn Dutch (Nederlands)

Tarefas: During the whole week there are different workshops and tasks depending on what the youngsters, social workers and volunteers planned. There is a schedule of the week that gives structure to all persons involved in the project. Off course it is possible to make some changes in this schedule.

The workshops that are coming back in the week schedule are:

- Music: everyone is learning to play instruments or writing songs, sing together and even sometimes they prepare some real concert for an open day.
- Handicraft: making different kinds of things with wool, paper, painting, bracelets, making candles …
- Art: painting or other crazy things that shows something of their inner self
- Cooking: trying a new receipt or just make an ordinary Belgian meal.
- Wood: making a table and paint it, a cupboard or some wooden art
- Garden: taking care of flowers, vegetables,…

Some other activities that happened are: sewing, photographing, cycling or another sport, visiting a place or going to the sea, a
And of course also the daily tasks like cleaning, dishes, renovation, decoration,...

Horário: during the school period from Monday till Friday.

Condições: - There are 3 rooms for the volunteers. This is your private space. Kitchen, living room and bathroom is in common with the project and/or other volunteers.

- He/She will get a budget to do the shopping. In the kitchen everything is available to cook.

- transport is by bus and bike, train station 5km from the house

Formação: If the volunteer arrives at the end of July, the month of august he/she will take part of an intensive language course Dutch.
