Resumo: It is a town in the middle part of Norway and located where the river Namsen meets the fjord. It has 12.500 inhabitants. The town has youth centres, cinema, hospital, many sports facilities and is one of two national Rock Cities, witch means it's a lot of music in the town. The temperatures in summer are between 10 - 25 degrees and in the winter a mix between rain and snow and temperatures between 5 to minus 20 degrees. The town is a good place for outdoor activities.
The hosting organization is a public youth centre close to a comprehensive school and is open 5 days a week, mainly evenings. The hosts club for children with special needs 2 evenings ( 6 - 16 years) and a youth club 3 evenings ( 13 - 23 years). It has band room (music rehearsal), stage for performing music and theatre, café and space for outdoor activities as dirt bike track, climbing wall and skate board / roller blades (under construction). It is also a meeting place for other youth organisations.
It has about 150 - 200 users a week. In the summer the centre runs summer club for children with special needs and theatre for disabled people.
Perfil: Depending on the activity and program at the youth centre there will some times be work on Saturdays or Sundays. If the volunteer works on one of these days he/she will be off work on ordinary working days the following week.
The youth centre is closed on the national days in Norway - Easter, 17th of May, Whitsun and Christmas.
Tarefas: The municipality can offer the EVS volunteers interesting environment, work with young people in art and music, developing the town as a Rock City and gain the international work.
- volunteers will be a part of a team and planning the activities with the other youth workers and educated in the different kind of work in the centre.
- the volunteer will together with members of the youth club arrange concerts, small festivals, course for young girls who wants to form a band, cooperate with other volunteers in the region in culture activities and help to promote the youth centres activity.
- the volunteer will have Norwegian language course at the centre for foreign language
- learn more about the Norwegian history and culture
The volunteer will have fortnightly meetings with his volunteer coordinator, to discuss the volunteer's progress and any problems that have arisen. The volunteer coordinator is also available on a more frequent basis for informal discussions and advice regarding matters arising. The volunteer can bring in ideas of his/ her own in forming the activity.
