Resumo: The Organization is a central service of the University working in the frame of the Student and Professional Integration Department which assists and supports the university community in the social, disability and volunteering fields.

The volunteering unit, responsible for the EVS, has the aim of promoting university volunteering and solidarity initiatives, motivating the comprehensive participation in the different activities created through the programme or in coordination with other entities and related social networks.

Volunteers will live in the city, in a shared flat, respecting the rules agreed with the other mates, always respecting the rest of the neighbours. The organization will look for accommodation and guarantees appropriate living conditions and the fulfilment of legal conditions regulating renting contracts.

It is a university town, known world-wide for it. It hosts the oldest active university in Europe, founded in 1218 by Alfonso IX of Leon and the first one in Europe with the title of University, by the edict of 1253 of Alfonso X of Castille and Leon and the Bull of Pope Alexander IV in 1255.

The city was declared World Cultural Heritage in 1988 by the UNESCO. In 2001 it was European Capital of Culture and, since 2005, hosts the annual International Arts Festival of Castille and Leon. Currently, it is an important international reference for Spanish teaching, as it gathers 78% of the supply in Castille and Leon and 16% in Spain.

It is also well known for its architectural heritage and artistic richness: cathedrals, palaces, churches ... of architectural styles such as Romanesque, Gothic, Plateresque and Baroque.

Location: at the river side of the Tormes. Surface area: 12,336 km2. Inhabitants: 160,000. It is one of the 9 provinces in Castille and Leon. It borders at the North with Zamora and Valladolid, at the South with Caceres, at the East with Avila and at the West with Portugal.

Despite its extreme climate (cold winters and hot summers) is an attractive city for its visitors. There are many activities related to tourism and leisure. The Service Sector is its main economic force.

Motivation letter and application will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- Express interest for the activities of the project
- Previous volunteering experience

We have not defined a specific type of host organisation to collaborate with.

Tarefas: The activities will be carried out with other young people in the social and environmental fields, so the experience will provide them:
-Skills to learn and reflect about: their own learning, social challenges and problems, its causes and consequences, organisations and people committed with social change, values and human rights involved and making solidarity significant.
-Competences to intervene in: different problems and social contexts taking up responsibility.

-Skills regarding human relations: personal autonomy: self-esteem, effort, constancy, self-criticism, tolerance of frustration,... learning values and improving coherence. Solidarity, responsibility, justice, equality. Critical awareness and commitment. Skills for team work: skills to dialogue, agree, accept, demand, etc. Co-existence attitudes and customs: understanding, amability, pacience, generosity, etc. Communication and expression skills.

EVS volunteers play varied roles:
-Support dissemination of volunteering programmes in the University
-Attend new volunteers
-Partcipate in the activities to bring generations close to each other
-Accompaniment to students with disabilities
-Participate in environmental and social awareness projects

Volunteers may suggest actions to carry out within the project and we will enable the resources to carry them out, within our possibilities.

Participation: approx. 6 h/day, from Mo- Fr., generally in the morning, though, punctually, in the afternoon and, very exceptionally, on weekends. In the latter cases, volunteers will be advised with time.

They will receive language training in the official school of language or at the University.

Holidays: 2 days/month of participation Holidays may be during academic holidays.

Voluntary activities will never be job-substitution. The activities will always be carried out under supervision of the technical team of the organization.

Volunteers tasks exclude those of support to other EVS granted projects, that is, they will not be responsible for the management of a project, recruitment or training of other EVS volunteers.
