Resumo: Working environment: The premises of the Centre and the Club are informal. We seek to make friendly atmosphere in our organisation not only for our visitors, but also for our employees and volunteers.
Employees and volunteers keep also at their disposal a cabinet, where they can leave their coat, prepare tea or coffee etc. They have their own table and shelves. Volunteers share this room with 4 other employees.
The centre has 3 rooms for its operation: 2 computer rooms and one study room with library.
The club has 1 big room for its operation with tables, chairs, sofa, table soccer and darts.
Volunteers as employees can use for their activities all rooms, use an access to Internet, use a copy-machine and other equipment of the centre or the club.
The centre and the Club are situated in the building of the secondary school, which has nearly 250 students and 40 employees. The club is on the 1st floor and the cabinet for employees and volunteers and premises of the centre are on the 3rd floor of the building. The building is without barriers (there is an elevator).
Accommodation environment: A flat for 2 volunteers in the building of one-family house, which is inhabited - each of volunteers has her/his own room with detached doorway and lockable. Then there is a collective eating nook and a bathroom. The house is only 20 minutes walking from our organization. Volunteers can use the wireless Internet connection in their flat and a bicycle is there available to them.
The town of Prostejov is a former district town with population of about 50 000 people and it is part of the Region. The town has a favourable geographical location - it is situated in the middle of Morava, about 60 kilometres from Brno, the second biggest town of the Czech Republic. The ancient town lies in the heart of the so-called Haná region; nowadays it is the fifth largest city in the Czech Republic and the seat of the Region.
It has the second most significant collection of historical monuments in the country after Prague. In Prostejov, there is a long lasting tradition of clothing industry, which unfortunately stagnates today. But today, Prostejov is also known as the special military forces baseline. Right in the town, people can visit the theatre, culture clubs, swimming pool and sport studios. There are conditions for recreation, e.g. tennis. Thanks to easy availability it is possible to use cultural and sports opportunities of nearby cities.
The local community is helpful and kind. Young people are also equiped with language knowledge, but only few of them are not afraid to use the foreign language. And the speaking abilities of senior citizens is weaker yet. Generally, facilities for foreigners in Prostejov are at the basic but progressive level, there is for example Centre of Support to Foreigners). The facilities for foreigners are at the good level (it is the advantage of nearby cities). In Prostejov, there is an important Roma minority and also a Vietnam minority and they have an influence on the whole atmosfere of the town too.
Our organisation is situated in the building of the church school, so it also has influence on the community, which the volunteer is in touch with. And our organisation is intent on children and youth, who are not organized in any other leisure time activities centres. So there are two cathegories of visitors of the centre and the club: those, who are regulant clients of concrete activities, and then those, who come for the first time and (or) only by a single application - there can be more difficulties with cooperation and communication with the latter group.
Perfil: Volunteer's profile: helpful to children and young people, get involved in the offered activities, able to find her/his own activities, communicative and firm to solve possible conflicts.
Recruitment process: We reply to each applicant and then we choose the volunteer on the basis of her/his interests and hobbies. Especially, the concrete ideas of applicants (what they want to do in our organisation and what they want to learn in our organisation) are for us important.
Tarefas: Learning opportunities for volunteers in the project:
Volunteers will have the possibilities to actively participate in our project and they have also possibility of learning how to make their own (international) project. They can learn during the project /the Service more about working with computer and Internet (improve their IT skills and if they want they can learn how to manage websites), how to promote activities (preparation of leaflets, taking photographs and making photogalleries), how to lead activities e.g. conversations for public or creative workshops (find idea, create invitation card, communicate with applicants, cooperate with employees of the centre or the club, organize it in concrete time and space, evaluate their activities). They can improve their communication and social skills (speak with people who cannot speak English or any other foreign language, go shopping, travel by bus or train, practise public speaking and team working). After arrival they can learn basic of Czech language with their own teacher and then they can improve their knoledge and skills of speaking Czech in everyday reality and in other possible courses. They can learn during the project how to manage their free time, how to manage their pocket money and money for food. They can participate in workshops or seminars according to their interests and activities.
The role of the volunteers will depend on the projects and processes going on in the organisation but in overall the role will be related with the following activities:
- supporting everyday activities of the club and the Centre
- helping to organise activities for youth and giving information about the Centre and the Club , e.g. helping to organise seminars and workshops about study and work abroad possibilities in Europe, about EVS possibilities, helping to organise competitions, exhibitions, presentations etc.
- helping to compose materials (slideshows, booklets, leaflets)
- sharing his/her knowledge about the education and youth information system in the country of origin
The basic of the volunteers' service is participation in everyday activities of the Centre and the Club - participation in leisure time activities prepared by the Club for children and youth (help with organisation and preparation) and support of clients / visitors of Centre (help with log in the computer, help with looking for information about study, work, travelling, EU, socialpathology etc., print and copy etc.)
We enable the volunteers to choose from activities, which we offer, according to their capabilities, interests and hobbies (e.g. sports, drama workshops, conversation for public, creative workshops). We are open to a personal initiative of the volunteer, she/he can start with a new activity or create a holiday project for youth or help us to participate in Youth Exchange project and by activities enrich our common proposal.
Visitors of the centre and the Club are also interested in discussions in foreign languages or about the culture and native country of the volunteer. According to the knowledge of languages the volunteer can help consulting and searching information on foreign portals for visitors of the centre. The volunteer can also help with organizing weekend activities and courses of personal development, e.g. The Movement of the Animators (a systematic training for instructors and group leaders of the children summer camps).
The volunteer will dedicate her/his time mostly to the afternoon activities of the Club and the centre, her/his activities wil be coordinated by the Head of the centre and the Club.
The volunteer will work throughout the year with 1 or 2 other volunteers on concrete small activities to develop intercultural learning them too.
