Resumo: The City is situated in Transylvania, in the centre of Romania, at aprox. 160 km from Bucharest, being accessible by train or car; closest airports are in Bucharest or Sibiu. Is one of the most important cities of the country, with more then 280.000 inhabitants (8th city in Romania), a long history and developped economy. Starting 2005 the town is part of the Metropolitan Area, that includes the city and other 13 towns from its surroundings, with a population of more then 400.000 inhabitants.

Situated on an average altitude of 625 meters, it lays on the lap of Tampa Hill and is surrounded by Piatra Mare and Postavaru Mountains. Close to the city, on 15 km there is the famous mountain resort.

The town was documentary atested in the year 1235, with the name of Corona. The most important city of Transylvania, and dominating the economic life in the 14th and 16th centuries, Bra?ov (or Kronstadt - the german name) gained commercial privilegies from its rulers. Its geographical position situated it ahead of other Transylvanian cities at that time. Powerful guilds (weavers, craftsmen, armourers, blacksmiths, coppersmiths) made Bra?ov to become an important commercial spot and craftsmanship centre. The people here built fortress walls, bastions, towers, markets, workshops, inns, churches, hospitals in the European Medieval cities style. From the medieval architectural patrimony, Bra?ov still has impressive buildings which resisted over time: The Church from Bratolomeu, which is the oldest building built in roman style, the Black Church, which is the largest gothic church in the South East of Europe, bastions and towers, as well as the fortifications from the South and West parts of the old fortress. The old market, today Pia?a Sfatului, with the old City hall, is the most representative symbol of Bra?ov.

The gross domestic product (GDP) in 2008 was 7836 EUR (the first city in Transylvania). The town was one of the most important industrial cities of the country (internationally known for its tractors and trucks factories), and still preserves an important industrial part; important companies invested here in the last years (Kraft, Losan, Kronospan, Miete etc). In the same time it is known for its tourism: winter resorts, Bran Castle and the legend of Dracula, Peles Royal Castle, the fortified citadels of Transylvania, the Carpathian Mountains. The town is also knows for its University, the bears that sometimes visit some neighbourhoods, the beer factory (which now belong to SAB network) and its beautiful medieval centre.

There are Romanian, Hungarians, some Germans, Rroma people and also some other nationalities living together. In the last years the public administration became more interested in developing the infrastructure for sport activities and promoting cultural events. In present, in the town there are one of the biggest olympic skating rinks in Southern-Eastern Europe, the biggest leisure pool in the country, an adventure park in the forest, a climbing wall and soon, there will be a jogging runway. There are many social events going on weekly and advertised through free brochures, many local traditional festivals and some big ones, as the Days of the town - Junii (April or May) and the International Pop Festival - the Golden Stag (September).

At 130 km there is another important city of Transylvania, Sibiu, known not only for its important German community, but also for being 2007 European Cultural Capital. We implement different activities in this city as well, so we have a good knowledge of its life. Moreover Sibiu is known for its beautiful villages surrounding it (called Marginimea Sibiului), for a good preservation of local traditions, for Fagaras Mountains (the highest peaks in Romania) and Paltinis mountain resort.
Is not only medieval cities, with flourishing tourism and industry, but also important Universities cities, concerned with being green, sports and culture. There are still not enough educational services for youth and elderly, that is why we involve volunteers in developping more opportunities for these groups.

Perfil: We would like to involve in our project volunteers that are interested in the proposed topics and eager to learn more, pro active, creative, responsible, able to live independently in another country for the designed period of time.

We will ensure and open and transparent recruitment process by posting information about our volunteers opportunities on our site and promote them on social media, so that all young people could access them easily. We will communicate with the candidates during the recruitment process so that they have all the necessary information in time.

We would like to cooperate with Sending Organisations similar to ours, but is not a must. We are only interested to develop long term partnerships with SO's that communicate in all moments of an EVS project so that the volunteer's needs are best fullfiled from both parts.
