Resumo: The goal of this centre is the creation of a high quality and stable establishment for increasing knowledge about ecological issues in a region with a very high population density. The centre is surrounded by apartment blocks and offers local residents access to nature.

This first-of-its-kind project tries to fill a need for hands-on education, involving children and stimulating their interest through direct contact with nature. There are many environmental educational programmes for school children perpared every week.

A series of successes and a growing interest in activities continue to demonstrate the need for this initiative. Directly at Toulcuv Dvur, there is an organic shop, which offers a wide range of products including produce from Czech organic farmers. A reconstructed gothic granary is used as an exhibition space and also as a supplementary classroom for educational programmes. One room has been reconstructed as a student laboratory. A nice and new hostel offers a place for people to stay. There is also a Mother's Club which offers a programme for mothers and their pre-school children.

In autumn 2004 a kindergarten focussed on environmental education for pre-school children opened. All employees and volunteers take care of eight hectares of vegetable and flower gardens, potatoes and corn fields, fruit orchards, pastures, wetlands, and of chickens, goats, sheep, rabbits, pigs, horses and many other animals. Furthermore, a Horse Riding Club operates in Toulcuv Dvur.

in the area of Toulcuv Dvur. It is very beneficial because the volunteers can join the young people living in Toulcuv Dvur any time they wish but on the other hand they are not disturbed in the case they need some rest and peace. One of the rooms is located in the same building where the YEE office is and the second one in the hostel of Toulcuv Dvur. Volunteers have a lot of freedom, but should also respect the basic rules of the hostel and the centre. Our experience shows that the local community accepts our EVS volunteers in a very positive way, and that this helps a lot in their adaptation, especially in the first phase of the project. The possitive thing is as well that there is also another organisation in the center hosting an EVS volunteers. Toulcuv Dvur is easily accessible by public transport (buses and trams very close, metro approx. 15 min. by bus), it takes approx. 30-45 minutes to get to the centre of Prague from here. There is a big grocery store just across the street and one shopping centre 15 minutes walking away, with cinemas, restaurants, shops, post office and more. There is also a large park-forest area with a dam very close to the ecological centre, where it is possible to swim in the summer and ice-skate in the winter.

The office in located in Prague which is very interesting city, full of culture events, parks and very multicultural.

Perfil: We are looking for people that have at least basic computing skills (in the office s/he will learn how to use various programmes to make web design, layout) and are willing to work inside of the office and outside in the ecological centre. YEE welcomes volunteers with interest and/or experience in the fields of the environment, international movement of European youth, intercultural learning and/or EU issues. YEE offers its EVS volunteers both good working conditions and good living conditions, a lot of space for creativity and a chance to see the results of his/her work, as well as a friendly atmosphere, coaching, regular lessons in the Czech language, suitable accommodation and boarding, and the personal support of a coordinator and a mentor during the whole stay. We invite people who wish to gain working experience in the office of an environmental international youth organisation, meet many new friends from different European countries and who are keen to feel like they are doing something useful for environment. We are open to cooperate with any supportive sending organisation.

age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: The project for our volunteers is divided into three main parts:

1. The first part is the help in the office of Youth and Environment Europe (YEE) with activities connected with campaigns, training courses, seminars, webpage and publications. Concrete tasks offered to volunteers to choose from are, for example: networking with our member organisations, creating or collecting interesting articles for YEE publications, publication design, updating the YEE webpage, campaign preparations and taking pictures for publications. S/he will also have the opportunity to attend and represent YEE in the events and projects all over Europe which we are participating in and organising. International projects are one of the main areas of YEE's activities and our EVS volunteers are offered the opportunity to take part in these events. The volunteer can also participate and help in all activities needed for running an NGO and preparing youth projects.

2. The second part is to help in the practical activities in the Ecological Centre Toulcuv Dvur. This part of the project will help our volunteers to enter the local community. Toulcuv Dvur organises educational programmes on the topic of nature for children, handcrafts, presentations on Czech traditions and cultural events. There are a lot of programmes that are carried out, such as bread baking, home-soap production, wooden basket production, help with the animals, practical help in the garden and orchard, support by preparations of cultural events and exhibitions. Some examples of the cultural events at Toulcuv Dvur are Carnival, Christmas, Bio market andthe Day of the Earth. The part of the project enables volunteers to make more practical activities and often in the nature.

3. The third part is the volunteer's own project. We give our volunteers time to develop their own project with the help of YEE, especially EVS coordinator. The possibilities are quite open, depending on the volunteer's interests but preferably should be connected with nature and/or the environment. We offer volunteers the possibility to develop their own idea about activities in a way which will help her/him in their future job or study. We always give enough time to think about the personal project and try to help. We offer couching and assistance in the project. Some examples of personal projects are: collaboration with Radio Prague; creation of a pictures archive; web design; collaboration in the kindergarten; activities related to the club created in Toulcuv Dvur; development of interpretative panels and a youth exchange.

Every Monday we have a small meeting in the office which we use to plan the activities for the following week and the volunteers can express their interest to participate in planned activities. We make as well monthly evaluations and we always ask what volunteers would like to learn the following month.
