Resumo: The project environment is located in several districts, some of the poorer areas in Rotterdam in the South part of Holland. The environment is characterized by a multicultural environment.

Various organisational bodies, like the biggest housing corporation boroughs are working hard to improve the living and working conditions in the neighbourhood. Economic activities are stimulated, as well as activities that promote social cohesion..

The apartments that are provided for the EVS activities are located in the Feijenoord and Delfshaven districts.

Proposed activities for EVS volunteers:
The volunteer will execute activities that are organized in collaboration with housing corporation Woonstad Rotterdam and entrepreneurs and non profit organisations within these districts. Activities focus on social cohesion and improvement of the living and working environment of these districts. The volunteer will learn about urban development and initiatives that can be undertaken to stimulate social cohesion in the neighbourhood.

The tasks of an EVS volunteer will be to help and assist in setting up and execute activities and projects that are organised in the neighbourhood by the housing corporation, the city council and other parties. These projects and activities are diverse: they are for instance related to setting up a garden that will be used by the neighbourhood to organise leisure activities (oranjeboomstraat). The volunteers will be active in different neighbourhood activities. Concrete activities depend on the projects that are executed in collaboration with woonstad Rotterdam and the Feijenoord/Delfshaven boroughs. Activities that will take place are: Feijenoord eet!, a yearly occurring event that is organised for residents to eat together and prepare food for each other, Thuis Op Straat (TOS: leisure and sports activities organised for children on the street), OORD (an undeveloped area in the Feijenoord district that is used for a variety of activities), de Karel Schot vogelklas (a place where wounded birds can recover from their injuries) and sportieve hardy's, the only fitness club for people with limitations. As part of revitalizing the Feijenoord district, in 2009 the trattoria - an Italian restaurant - opened its doors. It provides working placements for students that have cognitive and/or emotional limitations. Also supporting several primary schools during the lunch break by looking after the children and preparing lunch is part of the volunteer’s duties.

Perfil: Each potential volunteer that has an interest in urban development, a dialogue with different cultures, and activities that focus on social cohesion are encouraged to respond. Being open minded towards other cultures is necessary for the project as well as the willingness to communicate with others. Being flexible towards activities.

All volunteers that respond, will be screened on the following criteria:
1. motivation for the project
2. flexibility in doing a variety of tasks
3. willingness to learn Dutch and speak in English
Lava Legato is willing to collaborate with a great variety of sending organisations in all possible countries.
