Resumo: The project is situated in a retreat house, which is based in a former Benedictine monastery building. The history of the place goes back to 739. In 1930 a new period starts: The Salesians of Don Bosco purchase the monastery. The congregation started to restore the buildings, saving them from the decadence and gave an input to a renaissance of the cultural life. The retreat house was grounded in 1969 and offers social and spiritual development to young people.

The monastery is located in a village with around 4000 inhabitants around 60 km south of Munich towards the Alps. The town is easy to reach by train from Munich. There is a train connection every hour in both directions. A lot of tourists visi this region, which offers many possibilities for leisure time activities (walking, cycling, swimming). In the monastery there are two colleges (University of applied sciences of social work and university of philosophy and theology) with around 600 students for social work, philosophy and theology.

This makes the place itsself a very young place with a lot of social life, where young people easily can step in.
The volunteer will have an own area, with a single room based in a community with other volunteers. Food is provided by the host organization.

Perfil: Every young person is welcome who is open to other young people. A basic knowledge of German would be really helpful to start from the beginning in participating in the educational activities. Any skills in the area of sport, music, arts and crafts or experience in youth work will be very welcome. There should be an openness to work in a centre which has a Christian background. Normally we use to look for volunteers in cooperation with our partners in Europa. If young people are interested they contact their sending organisations. After this they send an application and if possible, we arrange a meeting to get to know each other. We select the volunteers together with our partner organisation.

Tarefas: The retreat house has two major tasks: one is the work with groups of young people who come to the organization to work on their personal and social skills. In this part the volunteer can get in contact with German young people, can do indoor climbing, offer leisure time programme. An important point in the cooperation with international volunteers is the intercultural exchange: Gemran young people can meet the volunteer and exchange experiences (on topic like: intercultural learning, Youth in Europe).

The volunteer has got the possibility to join seminars for international voluntary service in order to exchange experiences with other volunteers.

The volunteer will also have to do some practical work in the youth centre: support in the central office, weekly meetings with the house manager, reception service for young people, guided tours for groups in the youth centre. All the activities are planned week by week according to the skills and expectations of each single volunteer.
