Resumo: The program will be implemented in the organization NGO, located in Cyprus. The town is the second biggest city of Cyprus and it has a beautiful enviroment due to the fact that a lot of cultural events and festivals are running throughout the year. The town is a coastal city and in the last years it also became a university city. There are a lot of students and a lot of action in the city so the volunteers will have the opportunity to socialize with young people.

The organization is located very near the city centre and it is working as a day centre for people with special needs. The daily activities of the organisation are handicraft and art workshops, sports activities, drama workshops and educational/leisure excursions where the learners have the opportunity to integrate in the local community. The organization mainly operates in it’s offices and workshop spaces.

The volunteers duties will be related to the daily activities of the day centre, as already mentioned above, according to their own fields of interest and expectations. The daily program of the volunteers will be arranged upon common agreement with the person responsible for their duties. In general, Provasi has a very friendly enviroment in welcoming people from different cultures and backrounds.

As regards the personal support of the volunteers the host organization has a person responsible for the mentor duties of the program. This person has herself participated in an EVS program as a volunteer and has the experience of the EVS mentor in two projects, hosting each five volunteers. The mentor of our organisation will provide the volunteers with personal support as well as with important information regarding the daily life in Cyprus.

In addition the volunteers who will be hosted by the organization will receive upon arrival a training on how to deal with people with special needs and later on will be integrated in a greek language course for foreigners. This will enable their integration in the local community.

Perfil: All young people between 18-30 years old, will have the opportunity to participate in the EVS Project hosted by the organization.

The volunteers selection will be done according to a democratic process, beginning with all young people interested sending their CV’s and motivation letters. Followingly the board of the organization will examine all the applications and try to contact the volunteers either per Skype or telephone to interview them in person. The sending organisation plays also a significant role in this part of selection of the volunteers. The whole process will be done in a proper manner by following all the guidelines of the program and by including also people with fewer opportunities, as already mentioned above. For us it is important that the people involved in the project are open and willing to work with people with disabilities especially in the field of art and theater workshops.
The sending organization is preferred to be an organisation that deals with social issues, such as volunteerism, equality, human rights, disability and discrimination issues. It is also important that the sending organisation has previous experience with the EVS program, in order to achieve the preparation needed for the volunteer but also to be able to support the whole process of the project.

Tarefas: The organization will offer to the volunteers in terms of service and learning opportunities, the possibility to gain a new cultural and learning experience through their participation in the project. The volunteers will have the opportunity:
• to learn how to work in a group
• to meet and to experience a new culture
• to learn a new language (Greek)
• to gain experience in working with people with disabilities
• to interfere with other young people from different cultural backrounds
• to learn how to develop initiatives and how to implement them
• to develop both personally and socially

The role of the volunteers in the organisation will be defined according to the fields of action of the host organization but also according to their interests and needs and will have a supporting character. The volunteers will have the opportunity to take initiatives and to bring new ideas in the organization. Those will be discussed with the person in charge for their duties and the volunteers will be guided on how to implement them.

The volunteers will have the chance to participate in the art and handicraft workshops, to assist the social workers of The organization with the daily activities in general, to partcipate in actions/projects/seminars of the organization and to help the learners during the workshops. In addition the organization is organising every year theater performances and events where the volunteers could be directly involved both in the preparation but also in the implementation of those by integrating also their own ideas.
