Resumo: This organization is situated in the north of Denmark 3 kilometers from the big inlet, Limfjorden. From the school there is a great view to Vilsted Lake which has good possibilities of canoeing etc. Nearby you can also experience Vitskøl Kloster which is an old abbey. It was founded in ap. 1100.
The school was founded 8 years ago and has growm from 85 students to 290 students next year. We have old beautiful buildings and good possibilites of a varied range of leisure activities.
The students either complete their 9th or 10th grade at the school (some of them are here for 2 years). They complete the year with the Danish O-levels and some of them take an additional certificate in Cambridge English.
An important outcome of the stay is also that students develop their social and personal skills so they are ready to continue their studies and an independent adult life after their stay.
Our school is based on the idea that students can suggest and help to develop new subjects and courses while staying here. We have a range of subjects that we offer almost every year – sailing, diving, adventure, horseback riding, music, design, dance, media – and then we also have other subjects that have been formed along the way together with students – martial arts, street performance, hell’s kitchen and drama.
The last two years we have also been working hard on our international profile as explained earlier. It is in this respect that we are looking for EVS-volunteers.
Perfil: The volunteer must be mature, open-minded and able to work based on his/her own initiative.
We would prefere a person with a good command of spoken and written English language..
Volunteers with a creative skill – dance, music, sports etc. will be preferred, but other cultural skills will be important assets. We are also looking for volunteers who are native speakers of either English, French or Spanish
Volunters with a interest in globalisation are also wellcome.
Tarefas: The volunteers will be part of the special fellowship that exist on a Danish Efterskole. As the volunteers are older than the students they will also be positioned as leaders, authorities and consultants which is a great opportunity to develop pedagogical abilities and to ability to structure and plan events for others.
As all of our students also visit other countries, the most important taks for the volunteer is to create an intercultural environment at the school. This could be done through informal cultural activities, dancing classes, language classes etc. – good ideas are welcome!
The volunteer is highly incouraged to document life at the school and publish the documentation nationally as internationally.
We often have activities in the evening or in the weekend. Often it will be expected of the volunteer to participate in or contribute to these activities. If the volunteer is responsible for the acitvity he or she will of course have another day off, but the volunteer is encouraged to participate in as many activities as possible in order to have a rewarding experience of the stay.
The average working hours will be 6 hours a day excluding Danish classe for the volunteer.
Lodging and boarding:
The volunteer will be lodged at the high school where he/she will either have his/her own room or share a room with another volunteer. There will be shared toilet and bath facilities.
The local AFS chapter will arrange a weekend host family for the volunteer. He will eat at the school together with the students and the staff.
The volunteer will be invited to social events arranged by the AFS’s local chapters together with other volunteers, exchange students and host families.
