Resumo: The town is the second biggest in Macedonia located in southern Macedonia with a population of about 90.000 people.

The town is known as a town with remarkable architecture and lots of events in the field of culture and art happening on permanent basis. Also has a university with young people throughout the country, creating a great mixture of youth. Bitola lays in a valley near the mountains of Pelister National Park, which is great place to get away from all the fuss and to relax in a natural atmosphere. A historical site, Heraclea, lies on the edge of town. Socializing with local residents should be very easy taking into consideration the informal approach of communication in the local area of the Balkans and openess for socializing with foreign people. Drinking coffee on the pedestrian street is town's most prevalent pasttime. The city is also known for its fashion and for the old consulates dotting the city. The religion is mainly Orthodox Macedonian (Christian) although there is also a Catholic church, as well as Evangelistic, Adventist church and mosques. This is a quiet and peaceful town, with no security concerns. Transport connections are good in Macedonia, and it will not be difficult for volunteers to travel to the capital, Skopje, or to other towns.

Also has organized local bus transport system which is inexpensive and the town is compact and easy to navigate by foot or by bicycle.

For years the town has lagged without bigger economical investments and now after the decentralization of country in 2007 is starting to increase development. The town's weak economy has created big social differences among the population.

At organization we are aware of that situatuation and that is why our main focus is providing the young people of Bitola more opportunities for their inclusion and involvement. The organization offers exposure to the European cultures and European people mainly through youth exchanges and trainings within the Youth in Action programme as well as cooperation with many countries from Europe within the association network.

The EVS volunteers will be accommodated in the centre of the city very close to the bus and train station, most NGO and other institutions headquarters, police, banks post office etc. They will be accommodated in an apartment in safe environment and will have to respect the universal principles of living in a collective building (not to produce noise before 9 am and after 10 pm, awareness for the hygiene and infrastructure of the building, etc.).

The main project activities will be in the organization space, located in the center of the town, where we have all means of logistical support like: other organization people, computers, printers, scanner, camera, telephone line, internet access, etc.

Other work may occur at the offices of partners when we cooperate on specific projects (like making movies or comics or some presentations or exhibitions in different interesting places in town). The volunteers will work closely with other local volunteers and people involved in the daily work of YMCA Bitola and have the opportunity to get acquaint with the people of Bitola and Bitola as a town of culture in Macedonia.

The activities in which EVS volunteers will be involved with are in the field of art and culture. Specifically that means: making amateur movies and videos and promotion of different kinds of events, intercultural evenings for sharing and comparing the volunteer's home country with the new experiences in Bitola in intercultural evenings, organizing informal and socialising hours with local youth teaching the expressions and basics of their domestic language. Also we leave space for the volunteers if they want to do something else in terms of multiculturalism and visual arts. The volunteers will work with youth mainly from the age group of 17 to 30 years old. Most of the activities are in the town of Bitola, but also we consider as possible other places in the surrounding (like the nearby Pelister National Park or visiting Ohrid, the biggest tourist destination in Macedonia, only 75 km from the town).

All these previously mentioned activities within the field of arts and culture are fully compatible with the other segment of activities in which the EVS volunteers will be involved and that is media and communications/ youth informations. That means organizing presentations for the young people of town and sharing with them the videos, movies, comics, stories and other products that we do in association that show the activities that we do. The goal is to increase the effect of the already finished activities, so the people that didn't participated can see what happened and from the other side that is on spot offer for their involvement in further future possibilities in different youth activities organized by the association.

Also we are open to organize group EVS as possibility to stimulate even greater international cooperation, either by bringing a group totown or sending young people from town abroad. Potential activities in which these young people will be involved include: working on a common activity - making an amateur purpose-oriented movie from which both sides (sending and hosting organization) will benefit; jointly renovating a new home for the organization, if such a location is secured; group study visit activity and getting know the organization or the foreign partner better; a training on volunteerism and possibilities for putting it into practice on spot.

Perfil: We expect volunteers who will be interested in our activities and motivated to work. We expect the volunteers to have certain experience, or be motivated to gain experience within arts and culture (e.g. experience with drawing, video, photography, music etc.) in order to be able successfully to involve the volunteers in the activities. Also we expect the volunteers to be familiar with the basics of computers and software like Office programmes (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), internet etc. However, we organize our activities on amateur level and not professional so we encourage young people who want to learn and practice videos and movies and not professionals in those areas.

We will use all the available information resources for recruitment of EVS volunteers to be disseminated and accessible as much as possible to young people (including the networks, and the web sites that are promoting and informing about the possibilities of EVS volunteering). The selection of the potential EVS volunteers will be made on the basis of the CV, background of the sending organization, and especially the motivation letter from the volunteer. All interested sending organisations and volunteers will be informed on time regarding our decision.

We are open to host volunteers from any youth NGO familiar with the Youth in Action Programme, taking into account the nature and objectives of the EVS projects and that the organizations have a transparent and adequate process of mobilisation of the volunteers they are sending.

We already cooperate with many organizations in Europe mainly in the area of organizing youth exchanges and we believe that establishing contacts with sending and hosting partners will not be very difficult.

Tarefas: The activities in our projects will provide our volunteers the opportunity for fostering creativity and professional growth, to contribute to our community, and to improve their own personal qualities as well. They will also have the possibility to exchange experiences and develop intercultural competences.

For sure EVS voluntees will have lots of learning opportunities: learning the Macedonian language, workshops on expression through arts and mainly focusing on videos, recording and editing videos and making DVDs, drawing comics and illustrations, leadership skills workshops, project management, getting acquainted with local culture and traditions, NGO sector, volunteer workshops, etc.

Since the Y-Movie programme is not for professionals - but rather for young enthusiasts interested in working with videos, in the beginning the EVS volunteers will be provided with basic training including instruction on managing the cameras and other equipment, self expression guidance and practical experience with other domestic volunteers. They also will be involved in other arts and culture and leadership skills workshops.

Volunteers will have assistance until they feel self-confident to work on their own with the cameras and computers and afterwards if they feel capable enough they can initiate more independent projects to create movies from different activities that we do and do video editing as well. Also there is enough space so they can produce their own materials. Initiating projects does not necessarily mean working on their own, but rather working also in in mixed teams with local volunteers. The volunteers will have a chance to develop their personal project that they should realise during their EVS with the assistance of the host organisation. The work is interesting and fun dealing with computers, cameras, lcd projectors and of course, many people.

Beside the videos and movies, the volunteers will have opportunity to work closely in other activities and programmes like the Y-Comics dealing with illustrations and paintings and working with teams that organize local activities, events, trainings, etc. Also volunteers will be able to participate in other international events in Bitola and other towns as part of international events in which we cooperate with other organizations mainly within the Youth in Action programme and the YMCA network with local youth clubs in all over Europe particularly in the Balkans. They will cooperate with experienced young leaders involved in different programmes gaining valuable international teamwork experience.

The volunteers will be active max. 30 hours a week from Monday to Friday, app. 10.00-16.00. Saturday and Sunday will be free days. If the volunteers will have to work during the weekends, they can take time off during the following working days. As our organisation is a volunteer organisation we have a flexibile schedule and some-times work activities will be in the evenings and on weekends. Also the working hours depend of the dynamic of project in which volunteers will be involved - sometimes working on a movie can take very easy many hours in front of the camera or the computer, but after finishing the movie there are also many hours to spend sharing the enjoyment with the team for the great movie created.

From the EVS volunteers we expect that they will participate in the initial training in which they can learn, cooperate with the local volunteers in working on the videos, record local activities of the organization, record other interesting thematic videos and work on specific amateur movies as final products, and assist the other organizations volunteers in the activities of this and other programmes that we do in terms of logistics (writing e-mails, working on the computer and assistance on projects that we prepare, writing articles for our newsletter and other smaller things). For everything that the volunteers will do they will work in teams or will be offered different kinds of support depending on their needs.

In terms of service, we'll offer the EVS volunteers the opportunity to work with other local volunteers that will support them as well as needed equipment and office space. EVS volunteers will be provided with mentor who will be responsible for providing support in terms of better adapting the volunteers to the local culture, people and environment, as well as providing socialization within Bitola and assistance getting to know the town. Also the mentor will provide support in easily dealing with any problems that the volunteers have, but also will be a person with whom they can talk about to for anything bothering them and together work on overcoming any difficult situations in which they feel unconfortable. Besides that, in the beginning especially the volunteers will have a local volunteer as support to guide them in their better integration in the activities of the organization and the local social life, a person also responsible for the volunteer's personal priorities and needs in the beginning.

At the end of their service the volunteers will receive Youthpass certificates, recognized all over Europe, for their practical work, volunteering, and contributon to support association activities.
