Resumo: The volunteers will live in the small appartment Vaðshólar at the farm Hjalli which is located in Reykjadalur (Smoke-valley) in Suður-Þingeyjarsýsla. The farm is on the east side of the river Reykjadalsá but the highway 1 is on the west side of the river and it is easy to see the farm from the highway. The small urban village Laugar is in Reykjadalur almost 3 km distance from Hjalli. About 250 people live in and around the village but in addition to that in the winter about 100 students come from all over Iceland and live at the dormitory of the secondary school; Framhaldsskólinn á Laugum. In Laugar there is also a kindergarden, an elementary school, a music school, a bank, a small grocery store, a carpenter´s shop, an electrical workshop and the office of the community; Þingeyjarsveit. There is a strong social activity for young people in the secondary school and also there is a powerful association for young people in the region that offers participation in diverse associational work, such as sports, drama etc.

In 40 km distance from Hjalli, there are two urban areas, Reykjahlíð to the south (200 inhabitants) and Húsavík to the north (2.200 inhabitants) and the people of Reykjadalur also take part in the social activities and service in these places even though there is no general transport between them. The town Akureyri is in a 60 km distance from Hjalli, there is a frequent general transport from the town, an international airport among other things It is not possible to travel to and from Laugar on the same day by general transport or to any of the urban areas in the neighbourhood except in the summer and at that time there are only 2 trips available.

The volunteers of Lifsmotun will work at the base on the farm were during the sommer Lifsmotun runs a camp site. The volunteers will also work on the farm for the forestry associaton and take part in reforestering program. The volunteers will work in all the schools mentioned, both by helping teachers in the classrooms aswell as organising and taking part in leisure activities of the students. The appartment Vaðshólar is an non smoking area

Perfil: The organization works on building its network of relationships that work inside ESÞ and plans to build up its network by relationship among other things with Germany and Poland and people who are connected to these associations.

The selection of voluntary workers is done in close relationship with these cooperative movements and they know the conditions and the main core of the voluntary project of the organization very well.

When voluntary workers are selected, among other things it will be important that the individual person is open, interested, ready to learn to work on new tasks and understand his own limits but at the same time he is ready to take the challenge.

As working at conservation of nature is a part of the project, it is a good quality to have an experience from such work but it is not necessary and as it will also be a lot of work with artistic methods, it is a good quality but not a necessity.

Tarefas: The task of the voluntary workers of organization will be to take part in the activity that organization runs and works on in cooperation with schools and associations in the neighbourhood. The projects of the voluntary worker are seasonal and related to construction of the nature in the summer but different youth- and associational work and courses in the winter.

A typical work for a voluntary worker in the sommer is to take part in forestry- and soil reclamation project for a forestry association and maintane and service the camparea of Lifsmotun. On a typical day when forestring trees volunteers go from the farm in the morning with the tractor to the hillside and plant trees for six hours (of course with breaks and food baggages).

In the winter the volunteer take part in and lead and run associational events - and youth work for children and teenagers. The volunteer also has possibilities to work whitin the schools in classrooms assisting students, observe and help teachers. The volunteer is expected to have the initative to bring in his/her ideas on workprojects within the schools. The volunteer also has the possibility to choose where to put in his/her most effort; in Kindergarten, Primary school or Secondary school. A typical winterday could include a few hours work on schooltime in one of the schools helping a teacher or students, and some time working with or for students on some leisure time activities.

A voluntary worker can on his/her free hours for example learn to play an instrument at the music school, take part in sport training with the secondary school students or even participate in arrangement of art festivals such as concerts, artist exhibitions and drama.
