Resumo: Pro Juventute Mikado is part of the Pro Juventute network (www.projuventute.at). Pro Juventute Mikado was founded in 1992. It is a Social pedagogic Community, (a little bit like a children´s home, but much more familiar) taking care of children whose parents aren’t able to care for them – some for one or two years and some until they are adults, depending on social problems, illness etc. The aim of Pro Juventute is to allow children and teenagers in Austria a life in a safe, sheltered and happy environment. Pro Juventute is raising the children in cooperation with their parents, teachers and the youth welfare office. A maximum of 18 children and youths, aged form 6 to 21 years can be supported by Pro Juventute Mikado. 10 children are living in a big house with a spacious garden, 5 teenagers, (from 15 to 18+ years), may live at a second smaller house, about 1,5 km away, near the centre of the village. And up to 3 teenagers and young adults can live in external flats supervised by the minders. We are trying to make the community as a cozy and warm home for the children by providing different activities (cooking, washing, cleaning, doing the shopping, working in the garden etc.). We accompany and guide the children with their tasks involving school and work, and - for sure – look after them during their free time, sometimes organizing games, outings and sports etc.
Perfil: She/he should be * open-minded * interested in working with children and teenagers * enthusiastic; willing to play an active part in working with the children by being creative (maybe playing, singing, dancing, doing sports or anything else he/she would like) * willing to learn German as the communication between the children and volunteer has to be in German (communication with the staff members in English will not be a problem) * motivated for self-reflection * a driving licence would be great
Tarefas: The volunteer will be involved in the team like a trainee. He/she will work together with the staff members and care for the children. The volunteer will mainly be involved in leisure activities, but will also assist with homework, accompaning the children doing their daily duties and do some housework and/or gardening. The working time will be about 30 to 32 hours a week. The working times will mainly be in the afternoon, sometimes also the whole day during the holidays or at weekends. He/she will get a duty rota. Wishes and needs will be considered if possible. It´s intended that the volunteer can also do a project independently (encouraged by the staff members). The type of the project depends to his/her skills and interests.
