Resumo: The organization in Rheinland for the preservation of monuments is an official organisation of the Landschaftsverband and it's in charge for more than 100 000 monuments in the historial well known area of Rhineland. The monuments need to be registered, examined, described and shown to the public. 80 employees are working in different departments. They also work with the monument preservation authorities in all towns and cities of the Rhineland together and advise them with their knowledge. In the Inventarisation the monuments will be registered and explored.

The documentation department is doing examinations of the monuments at many placements, therefore the employees have to do a lot of official trips. In the restoration workshops experts restore monuments (objects out of wood, stone and paintings, old paper). The department art history and preservation of monuments give advise about the way restorations can be done.

The organization is situated in the Abbey Brauweiler in the village named also Brauweiler (10 000 inhabitants), the abbey is in the center of Brauweiler.

Brauweiler is 15 km far away from Cologne and has several possibilities for shopping and recreation. Cologne ist easy to reach by means of public transport (it takes around 30 minutes). Cologne itself is a lively city with a lot of cultural possibilities (museum, theatre, opera), has a University (50 000 students) and a lot of cafes and bars.

All members of staff in the Abbey Brauweiler have always valued in particular the personal exchange with young people of non-German origins. Working together we have discovered differences and could also find many things in common. We would like to expand this experience and would therefore be very happy to work again together with an EVS volunteer.

Through the contacts of the organization to facilities in the nearby Netherlands and Belgium the Europe growing together is an important matter and very topical.

The experiences we made with the european volunteer has been very well so far. Living together with the german volunteers had many positive effects. They had a person for daily questions, somebody to cook with and spendingr free time.together

Perfil: The volunteers should show curiosity and enjoyment in cultural heritage. They should be willing to go on business trips. The volunteers must be of age.
Due to the April Deadline please send applications to the project latest by the end of February every year.

Tarefas: This project wants to give an EVS volunteer an insight into the work of the monument preservation organisations in the rhineland. While being busy with the monuments the volunteer will learn a lot about the region Rheinland and its history, s/he can compare it with the history of his/her area of origin.

While working in the different departments the volunteer get to know several employees in our organisation and get a good impression about the job possibilities which can be done in this working field. Within the european countries there are many differences how the preservation of monuments is organised. The volunteer will learn how this is organised in the Rheinland and will be able to compare it with the structures of the monument preservation organisations in his/ her country of origin. In the first six weeks the volunteer is supposed to work a few days in every department and can choose related to his/ her personal interests one of the departments and can do there his/ her own project.

The volunteer is supposed to do own tasks, for example:

- type data in a database, type quotations, scan texts, pictures and plans

- do a restoration of an object (whether out of stone, wood, paper or a painting) and make a documentation about it
We also have some ideas about special projects which could be done by an EVS volunteer:

- After a half year we'd like to organise a press conference. There we could inform the public about the activities of the volunteer in the Rheinische Amt, we also could use such an event to inform the public about the monument preservation structures in the country of origin of the volunteer

- In the beginning of September, there is a National Heritage Day organised for the puplic. The volunteer could present again his/her activities in the Rheinische Amt and also could make an exhibition about the monument preservation in his/her country.

The work starts monday and goes till friday, the volunteer has to work approximately 32 hours. He/she will have 26 days holidays during 12 month. The project is supposed to start in September and goes up till the end of August the following year.
