Tarm is ideal If you would like to experience the countryside of Denmark, as it situated in natural surroundings with open heath areas and is close to the sea.

Activities such as swimming, windsurfing, fishing, kite flying, walks or boat trips on the Fjord are just some of the outdoor activities you can do here. There are plenty of possibilties for activities such as walking, cycling, bird watching or horseriding.

The town also has many sports facilities (such as facilities for handball, football, badminton, tennis, and golf as well as a aquatic center and a fitness center.

You can find more information about Tarm and surroundings at http://visittarm.dk/content/view/1/2/lang,en/
The EVS volunteer will stay with a local Danish host family and will be expected to become part of the family and as such take part in the activities and responsibilities in the family.

Contact point:
AFS Interkultur is member of the world-wide youth organisation, American Field Service, which has offices in 55 countries. AFS programmes include 12 months high school stay and 5-12 months youth exchange for people from 18 to 25 years of age.

Today AFS is an independent youth organisation with a strong international network (AFS Intercultural Programs). AFS is a voluntary based, non-profit organisation independent of political and religious interest. In Denmark AFS Interkultur was established in 1957 and has today 43 local chapters.

AFS Interkultur will be the coordinating organisation and through its large number of local chapters it will be responsible for finding a suitable host family.

Perfil: The volunteer should
• be interested in working with children
• be interested in sports and physical activities.
• be openminded and
• able to speak english on a conversational level.
The entire recruitment and selection process will be done in close cooperation with AFS Interkultur as the coordinating organisation. AFS Interkultur will offer the vacant positions through its existing network of EVS partners and if required widely through the Youth Network.

Tarefas: We hope that the presence of the volunteer will give both staff, children and parents an intercultural learning experience.
The EVS-activities will be adapted to the qualifications and interests of the individual volunteer and he/she will be working together with one of the staff members who will support and guide him/her when needed.

It will be possible for the volunteer to assist both in the kindergarten, the after school care and in the school itself and possible areas of activities include:
• Assisting in the general work at the kindergarten (with emphasis on sports/physical activities)
• Assisting in the general work at the after school care (primarily special projects carried out in the unit and other activities according to the interests of the children)
• Visiting classes at the school to share his/her cultural background and language
We believe that the volunteer position at our institution offers the volunteer the opportunity to learn about Danish kindergartens and the philosophy on which their activities are based. The volunteer will also study the new trend towards focusing on physical activities as a means to children development. Being based in a small town, the placement also offers the volunteer the possibility of learning about life conditions in countryside Denmark.

The volunteer is very welcome to make his/her own activities with the children, and we will do our best to help and support the volunteer so that the EVS-stay with us will meet his/her expectations.
Examples of activities in the kindergarten:
• Carrying out a wide range of outdoor sports/physical activities
• Spending time in nature, go on walks and doing other activities related to nature
• Doing indoor activities when weather requires it – primarily in the sports/gymnastics room
Lodging and boarding
AFS will provide a host family for the volunteer. The life in a host family will facilitate the integration in the local community and will accelerate the process of both language and intercultural learning.

The volunteer will be invited to social events arranged by the local AFS chapter and in that way he/she will meet other volunteers, exchange students and host families.
