Resumo: The EVS project takes place in the frame of an educational project with children. It will be a non-formal learning experience where volunteers develop personal, social and intercultural skills and will learn and acquire working experience in the field of childhood. This will benefit their personal education and their professional future. This will take place through the daily contact of volunteers with children at the Municipal Infants School, as well as with their parents. We will promote European awareness with all generations. This matches the objectives and priorities of YiA: opportunities for young people, volunteering, education and awareness about the belonging to Europe.
Our objectives are: enable the presence of volunteers, understand the diversity of European culture and shared heritage, raise awareness about belonging to Europe, enable young people with initiatives to express their values in a community in benefit of the development of the young people and the community, promote an enriching exchange of cultures, support the educational task of the Municipal Infants School, complement the assistance to children, so it is more open, and provide volunteers with educational experiences.
San Clemente is part of the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha. It is located in the South of Cuenca, at the border of the province of Albacete. It has a surface area of 30 km2 and a population of 8,600 inhabitants. It is well communicated by road, train and public transport, as buses often drive from San Clemente to Madrid, Valencia, Albacete and Cuenca. Near San Clemente (20 kms.) there is a train station.
It is an agricultural town with an important commerce, due to its broad area of influence. Industry if formed by Social Economy companies (Cooperative Agraria Ntra. Sra. de Rus, producing grapes and wine, and Cooperativa Agraria Manchaflor, producing garlic). It has got several important companies: meet products, pastry and two textile factories.
It has numerous social resources: local development agency, social centre, centre for women, centres for childhood aid, teacher centre, adult centre, folks university, exhibition hall, centre for elderly, residence for elderly, sport premises, swimming-pool, internet room, public library and numerous organisations which group different collectives and with different interests: youth, women, family,... theatre, music, culture, carnival,... Furthermore, San Clemente is also known for its city centre, with many buildings from the Renaissance.
Volunteers will live in a flat provided by the organisation, independently from the project beneficiaries.
The Infants School is in the school area, very near the flat. Users of the school: 70 children aged between 5 months and 3 years. There are 6 educators, specialists in Childrens Education, attending them. Volunteer's tasks: support the educational tasks of educators. This leads to mutual enrichment, is a very practical way of raising awareness about the belonging to Europe and is a cultural exchange.
They will have an interview with the mentor about their responsibilities, care and maintenance of the flat, co-existence relations and commitment to accept the general civic rules, as the rest of the citizens.
Perfil: People who agree with the aims of our organisation, responsible, motivated to participate in the EVS and open-minded.
Tarefas: With this project, the City Council plans to actively contribute and participate to raise awareness among the citizens about Europe, offering European youth the possibility of getting involved in the development and welfare of the community, at the same time as they develop their own social, intercultural and personal skills, useful for their personal and professional development.
We expect volunteers to acquire knowledge and experience related with non-formal children's education, through daily observation, practice and counselling from the educators of the Municipal Infants School (EIM):
Acquire practical skills to organise children's activities, guided and supported by our educators.
-Develop communication skills (listening, giving opinions, dialoguing, being able of exchanging opinions with people from other countries).
-Develop social skills, like team work.
-Develop emotional skills (self-confidence and self-esteem).
-Acquire Spanish language skills (they will receive training 2 h/week from October to June). The teacher will use an intercultural approach which increases their knowledge about the community, competences as Spanish speaker, including grammar and cultural contents.
-Acquire a better knowledge of common European values.
-Deepen in the knowlege of people with different cultural values.
All these competences will be acquired gradually, carrying out their tasks, supported and guided by the educators and the mentor. The mentor will be in charge of putting the volunteers in contact with the local young people, organisations and groups, so they can acquire skills, knowledge and attitudes making their integration in the community and their personal and social development easier, all this from a non-formal, practical approach.
Throughout the year we carry out sport activities, concerts, theatre shows, computer workshops, music, trips,... in which the volunteers may participate.
The initiatives, ideas, creativity and experience of volunteers will be taken into consideration when organising their tasks.
The tasks of volunteers focus on the support to the educational task of the educators of the Children's School, with 70 children aged between 5 months and 3 years, distributed in 6 classes.
Time of participation: 30 h/week (mornings) and language training (2 h/week; afternoons).
Depending on their tasks, initiatives and language skills, they can carry out language work-shops for children older than 6 years.
We ensure the participation of volunteers in training at arrival and intermediate evaluation and provide opportunities for them to learn Spanish language.
Volunteers will have to follow the EVS rules and regulations, common civic, responsible behaviour, rules of the facilities they visit and common co-existence rules.
