Resumo: This is a seaside town on the East Coast of Ireland. It is in the perfect location because if you go North you will be in Dublin in 30 mins, if you go South you will be in the beautiful countryside in 30 mins! The town has a population of approx 34,000 and a number of youth projects in the town.
The project environment will be the Youth Centre building.

Inside the building there is an open space that has a café area and a games area for xbox, Wii etc. There are Apple Macs and laptops with internet access also. The open space is also used for Hip Hop dancing and other big group activities. There is a kitchen in the youth centre with full cooking facitilities. There is also a room that we are developing as a Multi Media room with Music and Movie production equipment. There will also be activities outside the building e.g. outdoor pursuits & sports. There is a vibrant community and a long established Youth Service in close proximity. The Volunteer will have the opportunity to experience how other services do their work and to get an idea of how all of the different service providers work together and compliment each other.

The Centre is located in the middle of the town and as such the young people who we will service may come from different parts of the town. The project is not funded by any state bodies so there are no obligations to target or focus on any particular profile of young people.. For a small town does have so-called disadvantaged communities as well as middle class and affluent communities, therefore the challenge of inclusion will form a strong part of our work.

There will be an induction programme when the volunteer arrives which will give them a good sense of what is happening within the Youth Work sector in the town but also what is available in terms of the Volunteers personal life in the town for the length of time that they will be living here.

Our aim is that the Volunteer will be accomodated in a homestay setting with a local family.
The Volunteer will have a Mentor who will be an important support person outside the project.

The Volunteers will have the opportunity to work in an exciting and developing Youth Centre alongside a manager who has vast experience in the Youth Work field and has an established profile in the town. Being part of a project that is in the development phase will be a great learning opportunity for volunteers.

The Role of the Volunteer will be to work alonside youth workers in the design and delivery of programmes within the centre. The Volunteer will also assist in the overall day to day running of the centre alongside the manager. This will involve some administration and computer work. There is a youth club attached to the centre with its own local volunteers with whom the EVS volunteers will have the opportunity to work alongside.

The majority of the Volunteers time will be spent working directly with young people aged 12yrs and upwards. So, the volunteer will be spending time with the young people during drop in, chatting with them, playing games, encouraging them to participate, ensuring that they enjoy themselves. The Volunteer may be supporting an artist in the design of a mural for the centre, this will involve helping with preparation and also supporting the youg peoples involvement in creating the art work. The volunteer may have skills in music production, with this they will be leading a group in the multi media room with a leader supporting them. The volunteer may be involved in the Youth Forum which will support the active participation of young people in the running of the centre.

Tarefas: Some current ideas for activities in the centre are,

Drop in after school, Cooking programmes

Blogging, Art projects, Gardening project

Multi Media, Music and Movie production, Health Promotion, peer training

Outdoor Pursuits, Youth Forum

Because we are still developing the centre it will be an opportunity for the Volunteer to input suggestions and be given the support to implement some ideas he/she may have.

Horário: Sunday - Day off
Monday - Day off
Tuesday - afternoon and evening
Wednesday - all day
Thursday - all day
